You should never comb your hair immediately after applying oil. You see, hair is more fragile after oiling and your scalp is a lot more relaxed. Combing your hair roughly can cause hair breakage and loss. If you do want to comb your locks, start from the tips and gently make your way to the top. That way, your locks would be free from knots and the oil would spread to your strands and scalp evenly.

After applying a generous amount of oil, there’s no need to apply more. Remember, using too much of it, also requires you to use too much of shampoo as well. This can strip hair of its natural, protective oils and moisture. Thus, drying your hair out and making it look even more dull and damaged than before.

6. Don’t Tie Your Hair Up

We want you to know that when hair is oiled, it’s at a vulnerable state. Tying it up adds pressure and can easily break your strands. If you aren’t careful enough, it can also cause hair to fall and give rise to split ends. None of these are pleasant experiences if you ask us.

7. Don’t Use A Towel On Your Strands

Towels are rough and can cause hair to break if you aren’t gentle enough. The best way to help the oil penetrate is to wrap up your locks in a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel. It will keep your strands from staining your clothes without causing any harm or damage to the hair.

8. Don’t Use Another Hair Product

After oiling your hair, it’s important to not use any other product after. Since most styling products contain chemicals, they could ruin the texture of the hair by making it rough and dry. If it’s hair oil, stick to it and don’t mix it with another hair care product.

9. Don’t Overdo The Massage

Everyone loves a good champi session. However, too much of anything isn’t good for you. Massaging your hair for hours at a stretch can break or weaken your strands and ruin its texture in the long run. This could also give rise to more knots.

10. Don’t Carelessly Wash Your Hair

When washing, make sure to use only mild shampoo and lukewarm water as it prevents your precious locks from getting damaged.  It’s super important not to over-shampoo your locks, which is such a common practice when you oil your hair and can negate all its benefits. Make sure not to use too much oil, so you can wash it off easily without having to use extra shampoo.
