Sridevi Passed Down This Hair Ritual To Janhvi Kapoor & It’s Paying Off

Janhvi Kapoor just posted a selfie grid showing off her lustrous mane and it got me wondering about how her locks are so thick and shiny even after constant styling. So the star’s secret to healthy hair lies in DIY haircare recipes passed down to her by her mom, Sridevi. And I got access to one of the best ones from Janhvi’s DIY beauty list.

Sridevi would always encourage Janhvi to take care of her hair and she had a non-negotiable rule to do exactly that. The late Bollywood actress would have both Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor follow this simple hair ritual and it involves all-natural ingredients.

Sridevi’s Non-Negotiable Haircare Ritual

Sridevi would make both her daughters sit for a champi every three days and it was mandatory.  She would make a homemade hair oil concoction and apply it on Janhvi and Khushi’s hair followed by a massage.

This haircare ritual is something nearly all moms swear by and frankly, a hair oil massage really works wonders in reducing hair fall and boosting growth. But Sridevi’s hair oil isn’t your regular champi mix. She uses dried flowers and fruit in her concoction.

What’s In Sridevi’s Nushka?

This homemade hair oil recipe passed to Janhvi by Sridevi is something you and I probably have never tried before. It includes a powder made of dried flowers and amla. The base of this hair oil uses organic coconut oil.

Amla powder is a natural ingredient used in Ayurveda for promoting a healthy scalp and hair. Coconut oil is also extremely nourishing for the hair and it helps boost shine.

I trust the Organic Harvest Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil: 100% Pure for DIYs because it is certified natural.

How To Use Janhvi’s DIY Hair Oil?

Pick out some hibiscus flowers as they are used in ayurvedic haircare rituals and dry them out in the sun. Crush them to a powder and mix a tablespoon of it with a tablespoon of amla powder. Add this mix to three to four tablespoons of coconut oil.

Massage this hair oil concoction on your hair at least an hour before a hair wash. I find that massaging is important as it improves blood circulation and the powders in this recipe can gently exfoliate the scalp too.

When it’s time for rinsing out this oil, I like using the Sebamed Anti- Hairloss Shampoo as it removes buildup and leaves my hair feeling fresh and smooth.

I’ve been using this Sridevi-approved haircare nushka because who doesn’t want gorg hair like Janhvi Kapoor!
