Earth Day Quotes And Slogans 2021 For A Happier Tomorrow

Every year on the 22nd of April we celebrate the birth of the modern environmental movement as World Earth Day. This year we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of this day so remember to enjoy the fresh air and the bask in the bright sun, clean up some litter, plant a tree or simply enjoy being one with nature.

The first world Earth Day was celebrated on the 22nd of April,1970 with the goal of raising awareness about what is mankind’s role in preserving nature. On this date, 20 million people got together and ventured outdoors to protest in favour of a more eco-conscious society. At that time, for many people concepts of conservation of resources and ideas of preservation of the environment didn’t exist. From air pollution to toxic dump, almost everything was accepted and nothing was checked, until some people had enough and took to the roads to have a new and better plan in place.

In 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson and activist John McConnell asked Americans to join in the grassroot demonstrations. McConnell originally chose March 21st based on facts about earth day which was the spring equinox and Nelson chose April 22, which ended up becoming the final day.

The movement was more political in nature when it started though today it has become a popular day for many communities to gather together and clean up litter, plant trees and understand how much we learn and get from nature. So coming together as a people and celebrating the wonders of planet Earth is crucial even though we should ideally be doing this every day.

    Earth Day 2020 Theme

The year 2020 is dealing with a very serious and challenging issue i.e. climate action, which is also the theme for world earth day 2020. This is basically to take urgent action against climate change. This is one of the biggest global issues for humanity and all living beings unless we start implementing preventive measures for climate change. Our future generations and the entire planet will be in grave danger unless we all rise up to take collective action on an individual level and demand better governance policies on a larger scale. Earth Day cannot be seen as a one-day event but needs to be seen as a requirement to protect the planet and save nature on a daily basis. Our small contribution can make a huge difference to the carbon-free environment we need to survive.

Know More About Action Against Climate Change

Global warming caused by an increase in greenhouse gases, deforestation, destruction of the marine ecosystem and population increase has caused the Earth’s natural temperature to rise. The greenhouse effect is a natural process by which the atmosphere retains some of the Sun’s heat, allowing the planet to maintain the necessary conditions to host life. Without the greenhouse effect the average temperature of the planet would be -180C, however, due to the rise in temperature, life on Earth would not be possible anymore.

From the time of the Industrial Revolution, population growth, exploding resource use, draining of fossil fuels, increasing demand on energy and production kept getting worse and worse. The main impact in this whole situation was the increase in the global temperature of the planet which has risen 1.1 C since this period although it is estimated that by the end of this century it will rise by 2.7 C even if national commitments to reduce emissions are fulfilled.

Of course, there are lots of consequences of climate change but the worst ones will include the melting of the ice mass at the poles, which will cause the sea levels to rise, which will constantly cause a risk of flooding the coastal environments and through which some islands stake the risk of disappearing completely. This in turn has a domino effect on the planet.
