It’s that time of the year when we shop. China’s, no, actually the world’s biggest online sale day is here. November 11th is marked as Singles’ Day and this anti-Valentine’s day was transformed into the global shopping fest in 2009 by Alibaba and its founder, Jack Ma. In case you forgot to notice, the date is 11:11, which was chosen because it resembles 4 solitary bare sticks. Yeah, that’s right! The event starts at midnight of 11th November and continues for the next 24 hours. It features a steep discount on Tmall and is bigger than Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping sales combined.
This year, it is expected to have 15 million products from more than 1,40,000 brands, including 60,000 international brands like Gap, Nike and M.A.C.
Interesting fact: Last year, Alibaba made $17.8 billion during the sale.
