“That colour is too dull for my skin.”
“It’s pretty but I don’t think it’ll suit my skin tone.”
“I’d rather wear my usual black again.”.
My Dear Readers,
Stop hiding behind Snapchat filters. Here are 10 colours you should definitely give a shot rather than think “they’re not meant for your skin tone.” These dusky Bollywood beauties are proof. And while you’re at it, here’s how to mix things up and take the #FusionFever level 104.
1. Denim Doesn’t Disappoint
Don’t be afraid to play with colour themes on your fusion wear – like Athiya’s beige and dark blue printed jacket (with matching heels) on a dull denim co-ordinate set. A statement choker will complement the low-cut neckline while adding the drama you need.
2. Magic of Maroon
Solid dhoti pants with a printed flared tunic, take a cue from Parineeti and pull off colour-on-colour like a boss. The dark undertones of maroon will make a great outfit for a dusky beaut like yourself. Also, it will be an amazing Lohri dress.
3. Black Without A Doubt
We all have at least one basic black t-shirt lurking in our wardrobe. Take that and pair it with a black maxi skirt to complement your dusky skin, just like Mouni did here and throw over a traditional neck-piece studded with precious stones. Add some fancy fusion to your ‘all black everything’.
4. Dust Off The Pink
Believe it or not, dusty pink (with matching lips) is one of the best shades on dusky beauties. Subtle and sexy – at the same time. We like how Jennifer has paired this wrap asymmetrical kurti with basic white cigarette pants and strappy stilettos.
5. Red That Brings Out ‘You’
No, red on dusky skin doesn’t make you look ‘bridal,’ and Lisa Haydon is proof of it. A play of sheer and velvet with bold Indian embroidery and a matching lehenga skirt is what we want to channel our inner Goddess!
6. Dark Florals, Oh Yes!
It’s no myth that dark florals are one of the safest and most stylish trends for the dusky skin. Bipasha’s navy blue floral cape (with pleats to die for) is what you need this wedding season. But don’t just stop at dark florals…
7. Them Light Florals, Too!
… because light florals too look great on you. We love how instead of colour, Ileana has coordinated print on her dhoti pants and crop top. And don’t even get us started on those statement jhumkas.
8. O-live You Too!
We know, some of us have an aversion to olive green. Well, no more of that in 2018. Shilpa Shetty shows us how to rock the shade with a contrasting fringed crop jacket and oxidised silver jewellery. It’s the perfect boho look!
9. Shades That Belong Together
Blue and purple, red and pink, I’m one of those women who was never too sure about those combinations. Having seen Malaika do that to her saree, this is my new year’s agenda. Farewell coming up? Here’s a quirky blouse design with a blazer collar.
10. Pales And Pastels
Anita shows us how to poncho-up to a Mehendi function and we’re in awe! Cinched with a fringed belt, this fusion look has us rooting for pale green for the next wedding we attend.
