Heena Sidhu made headlines on Tuesday for her latest win, getting India the Gold at the Commonwealth Shooting Championships, in Gold Coast, Australia . The 28-year-old is not just a brilliant shooter; but, also a dental surgeon! Her love for guns began at a very young age, thanks to her father Rajbir Sidhu who was once a national level shooter himself, as well as her uncle, Inderjit Sidhu who is a professional gunsmith. “He would let me try them from a very young age itself – under supervision of course. But I always loved guns; I loved the bang,” Sidhu said about her uncle in an interview with Sportskeeda.
Sidhu also won India three gold medals in mixed air pistol global competition alongside Jitu Rai, including the World Cup Final. Her career began in 2006 and her first big win came in 2007 when she won the international medal as a junior, the bronze in 10m Air Pistol at the Asian Shooting Championships. Phew! She’s been at it for more than a decade!
But it gets better, her brother is also a professional shooter! And in 2013, she married Ronak Pandit (another pistol shooter!) and now he doubles up as her coach and manager!
It’s easy to say that this sportswoman is soon to become a household name, at the rate she’s going by; she sure is making us proud and redefining inspiration for Indian women.
