I am a hopeless romantic. I’m the girl who dreamt of her man bringing her red roses and kneeling down in front of her, with a ring in his hand. I wanted to be surprised with chocolates and ‘miss you’ cards at work. I’ve had boyfriends who did all of these, but they were not The One.
And then one day, I met him. He was my brother-in-law’s best friend and we met at my sister’s wedding. Talk, dark, handsome, and funny! All my friends had a thing for him, including me! He probably thought of me as a kid and all the female attention didn’t help much.
After the wedding, I kept bumping into him – at family functions, birthdays, parties and festivals. As luck would have it, we soon became friends! I even got to meet all his girlfriends. Trust me, not a good feeling at all.
On New Year’s Eve, we were partying at a packed Delhi nightclub. As the countdown began my eyes searched for him.
5…4…3…2…1
I took a step forward to give him a hug and then, I really don’t know how, we ended up kissing. And then we kissed some more. At that moment I just knew he was The One.
He brushed it off the next day saying, “It was nothing.” Six months later we were still friends but nothing more. I didn’t know what the issue was but He was apprehensive because he knew my family so closely, and if our relationship didn’t work, things could get ugly between him and his best friend. But as they say, love always finds a way.
It’s been four happy years since he said, “Yes” when I proposed. And we just celebrated our first wedding anniversary 🙂
If you love someone, say it. You don’t always have to wait for the man to make the first move.
