Well, Valentine’s Week is upon us, and not all of us have that special someone to have candlelight dinner with. Often, every time this year, at least two sections emerge on social media – couples deeply in love make pompous displays of affection, and others find solace in singlehood memes.
But hey, if you’re single — and ready to mingle — Valentine’s Day shouldn’t have to be about resorting to memes. Here are X things you can do –
1. Go to a Single’s Mixer
During Valentine’s Week, several singles mixer events are held across different cities. As you may have probably figured from the name itself, these events allow singles to bond and interact. So, if you’re single and wanna meet new people, visiting one of these events in your city may be a good idea. Think of it like speed dating. Who knows you may meet someone special there.
2. Try and go for a solo trip
When you book a group tour package as a solo traveller, you’re deliberately putting yourself in a situation where you’re most likely to meet new people. It’s like you’re putting yourself out there, and that is precisely what you should be doing if you seek to meet new people and possibly ignite a new flame. If not find a romantic partner, there’s a high chance you’ll make friends forever on one of these solo trips. It’s a win-win both ways.
3. There’s always someone online
You’ve thought about this. You’re probably already on dating apps. Or perhaps, you’ve been talking to someone for some time but haven’t met them yet. Well, a Valentine’s Day date is not a bad idea. And even if you’re not already talking to anyone, there’s always someone online. You just have to get your swiping game right back on. Who knows you may find someone who could fit into your life. And if you do, it may not be a bad idea to get to know them.
4. Ask your best friends to set you up
What are good friends for? You love your friends, and you most likely trust their instincts. If they set you up with someone they think you will be interested in, you are already starting on an advantageous note since you already have their approval. And we ALL know how important brownie points from best friends are!
5. Confess it out loud
You like someone? You’ve been secretly crushing over them hard for some time? Well, this may be a perfect occasion to confess all your hidden emotions if you know they are available.
6. Gonna sound cliché but maybe talk to that stranger
I know this appears too far-fetched, and casually starting a conversation with a complete stranger is easier said than done. But when you’re putting yourself out there, it includes being open to new conversations with new people. If you’re in an environment where you find someone interesting, you can approach them with an icebreaker. “Hey, I love your sneakers” or “Hey, I love that book you’re reading”, for instance. Again, it depends on what they’re doing, and you’ve to begin an opener around those lines.
7. Join the club you’re most passionate about
Do you have a hobby? Or is there something you’re really passionate about? You can voluntarily engage yourself in activities you’re interested in pursuing in your free time. By doing so, you’ll interact with a community of like-minded people. A great conversation starter, by the way. And may even find a romantic interest.
That someone is perhaps just around the corner, all you gotta do is take the first step. Having said that, let’s also establish that being single on Valentine’s Day is perfectly normal. Not just in February, you can explore the above options to boost your dating life in any other month of the year too. The choice is personal. And laughing out loud on reading memes is not as bad as it sounds.
