Be it arranged or love, marriage is a beautiful tradition but it definitely comes with some good and some not-so-good surprises. Most of us have a long list of qualities and characteristics that we look for in a life partner but we often miss out on questions that can actually help build the foundation of a stable relationship. Call it ignorance or lack of interest, couples avoid asking intimate and sometimes awkward questions.

To help such couples, a California based woman took to Twitter and shared some advice on what people should do before they decide to say ‘I do’, and the Twitter thread has gone viral.

On July 24, Saag Jaan posted a ‘pre-marriage checklist’ on her Twitter handle, which has now been retweeted by over 61,000 people and over 2,20,000 have liked it. From understanding opposite gender boundaries to sexual compatibility and more, Saag’s 20-pointer list is worth checking out before you take the plunge.

Saag Jaan went on to share how her parents always conditioned her to be a certain way so that she is worthy of marriage.

A study led by sociologist Paul Amato, Changes in Spousal Relationships Over the Marital Life Course, that was published in 2018, suggested that marital quality improves over the years for couples who don’t split up. Well, it clearly implies that knowing each other is actually beneficial for a marriage. While we aren’t saying that this Twitter thread is a holy grail for couples who are set to tie the knot, open conversations certainly play an important role.
