Chat GPT Can Now Tell You Which Lipstick Shade Suits You Best! Here’s How

Chat GPT Can Now Tell You Which Lipstick Shade Suits You Best! Here’s How

‘What colour looks good on me?’, is a question I have been asking myself ever since I started looking for my signature style. I’ve always gravitated towards darker shades like black, greys, and even browns. But in an attempt to popularise my closet, I’ve been on the hunt for different colours that suit me just as well. It has been a long journey, ngl.

I’ve been seeing a lot of different videos on Instagram on the concept of ‘colour analysis’ – Korean creators, in general, seem to enjoy the process, and I’ve been seeing glowing reviews from everyone. But when I looked it up, a few different things came up. Firstly, the treatment costs anywhere between 4000 to 10,000, which is too much for something I should already know. Second, these treatments are far and few between – especially in India.

So where do we go from here? Enter: the widely popular ChatGPT hack that offers a colour analysis, minus the cost and time wasted. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have seen influencers trying to get their colour analysed on ChatGPT. In the interest of fulfilling my own curiosity, I tried it out, and here’s what I think.

First, What Exactly Is Color Analysis?

Colour analysis is a technique rooted in the 1980s, popularized by Carole Jackson’s book, “Colour Me Beautiful”. It’s a method that categorises individuals into one of four seasonal types – Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter – based on their natural colouring. The goal is to highlight your skin tone through a palette that complements your natural hair and eye colour, creating a wardrobe so in sync with your complexion that no outfit feels like a bad one.

As someone who’s seen her fair share of beauty fails, I was eager to see if AI could pinpoint my perfect palette. Now, there are two ways to do this. If you have ChatGPT Plus, you can use Colourbot, which comes with the subscription. If you don’t have GPT Plus, there are a series of prompts you can use in the free version to figure out your palette.

How To Get Your Colour Analysis Done On ChatGPT?

Colorbot on ChatGPT Plus

First, I submitted a clear, well-lit photo of myself to Colourbot. The AI analyzed my skin tone, hair, and eye colour, categorising me into a seasonal type.

In addition to that, it also gave me specific colour recommendations and their corresponding colour codes.

I also asked about jewellery and which metals would look best on me.

Lastly, I asked about which makeup shades work well for my complexion.

DIY Color Analysis With Canva

I also tried the DIY route using Canva, a free design tool. By uploading a selfie and using the colour picker, I identified the colour code relating to my skin tone, hair, and eyes and fed this info into ChatGPT. Remember, the colour picker tool that helps you see your colour codes is only available on Chrome or Edge browsers!

Here’s what GPT had to say.

I also asked about jewellery.

And here’s what it said.

Lastly, I asked about makeup – which shades complement my colour the most.

So, What Did I Learn?

ChatGPT identified me as an Autumn palette and I must say, I’m shook. I have always considered myself to have a wintery palette since my veins are more blue than green. I look great in light pink and white, and I think silver jewellery works better for me than gold. But when it comes to makeup, I tend to gravitate towards browns and jewel tones more than lighter pinks and pale blues – which are more characteristic of an autumn palette.

In retrospect, the app correctly identified my favourite colours to wear – I love earth tones and jewel tones. Most of my wardrobe is muted with pops of colours and a bunch of white that I like to pull out during a special occasion. Teal is one colour I discovered this year and just recently incorporated into my wardrobe, so I’m pretty impressed to see it on the list.

For me, this really worked. I had a few misconceptions about my personal palette and this analysis did answer a lot of basic questions I had which is quite impressive. And there was little to no dissonance between the paid and free versions – I highly recommend trying this out if you’re confused about your palette!
