How To Channel Your Inner SoBo Starlet Without The Trust Fund

How To Channel Your Inner SoBo Starlet Without The Trust Fund

South Bombay is a culture within itself – they have their own familial bonds, a class system only they understand and adhere to, as well as an aesthetic that looks quite basic but is much harder to replicate than expected. From this cult, emerge the superstars of today, our Suhanas and Shanayas.

While they might not have worked terribly hard to achieve this status, they sure seem to spend a lot of time making sure it stays theirs. So in an attempt to appreciate their languid effort to stay on top, here is a list of our favourite nepo baby looks that you too should replicate before a big audition or a visit to the beach – maybe someone will ask to take a selfie with you!

Khushi Kapoor

We always love a good LBD moment, even if it is a structured gown that was tailored to fit like a glove. The pearly, iridescent highlighter and slick back bun paired with glazed nails gives Hailey Bieber in Bombay.

Suhana Khan

There is nothing that says you’re from South Bombay more than a great white tank top, a pair of denim shorts and beachy waves. Pair that with over-the-top blush, some mascara, and maybe a skin tint and you’re ready to spend Papa’s money for brunch at Soho House.

One thing you’ll always catch a SoBo girlie in is a white shirt – cropped or full-length, it’s classic and goes with everything. Pair that with brushed-out brows, a pink lip and it’s perfect for a long day from the car to the parlour to the car to lunch to the car to the club and then back home.

Shanaya Kapoor

A co-ord tracksuit paired with a trench code and Bottega bag is another outfit I’ve seen almost every Nepo baby in. You can’t wear a trench coat in Mumbai but it’s good to have if you’re flying to New York every weekend! That with a lip tint and a sheer foundation will always have you looking like your bank account is not half empty!

Janhvi Kapoor

As a SoBo girl, you have to have at least one opulent saree for your evening functions and magazine covers. Just like you match your handbag to your footwear, make sure to match your eyeshadow to the saree and pair it with a subtle peach lip for best results.

Navya Naveli Nanda

As someone whose legacy depends on her ancestry, it’s no surprise her outfits are reminiscent of the 90s. A yellow Bermuda co-ord is the epitome of rich SoBo chic. Add a mauve lippie, some blush, and a luxury bag and you’re ready to seize the day your grandparents will be paying for!

What makes a SoBo girl so chic is her willingness to pull out haute couture while required. Is it the exact same fit from the runway without a semblance of personal style or individual preference? Yes, but when a fit is basic you can always elevate it with a blush eyeshadow and a high ponytail.

In celebrating their effort to stay at the pinnacle of fashion, today we invite you to draw inspiration from their wardrobes and makeup choices, perhaps capturing a bit of their glamour for your next weekend getaway to the Alps.
