From Miss India To UPSC AIR 93, Aishwarya Sheoran Is Truly The Woman Of The Moment

Did you know that Aishwarya Rai was planning to pursue a career in architecture before getting swayed away by modelling offers and dropping the course altogether? Soon after, Priyanka Chopra too followed suit and dropped a career in psychology to focus on her subsequent modelling and acting career. Not that there's anything wrong with it but back in the day, you seldom heard about pageant winners dropping their lucrative modelling offers for other career options.

However, millennial pageant winners seem to be doing it differently. It was only last year that 2017 Miss India winner Manushi Chillar sought permission to resume her MBBS degree after a hiatus that she took to participate in the pageant. Now, Aishwarya Sheoran, a 2016 Miss India finalist has joined the league by cracking the Civil Services Exam and securing 93rd rank in the same.

Also, it's worth noting that Aishwarya has had a prolific modelling career with Bombay Times Fashion Week, Lakme Fashion Week, and Amazon Fashion Week being among some of the illustrious assignments that she has done in the past. Aishwarya has also walked for ace designers like Manish Malhotra. However, she always had an academic bent and planned to try her hands at Civil Services.

Aishwarya's father, Colonel Ajay Kumar, is the Commanding Officer of NCC Telangana Battalion, Karimnagar, and he seems to have inspired the decision to a certain extent. Looking at her father, she always fostered the dream of serving the nation and while she did consider joining the Army, she applied for Civil services to experience what she calls "the other side of the coin". "I thought I should try for civil services for diversity in the family and the ultimate idea is to serve the nation. In the army, there are opportunities for women to grow, but it is still very limited. In civil services, there is no limit to what a woman can achieve," she shared in a recent interaction with The Times of India.

Sharing what prompted her to take a break from modelling, Aishwarya said, "I thought that since I had always been good at academics, I should maybe take a break for a year or two and give civil services a try because it had always been my dream."

That said, clearing Civil Services exam is no child's play and Aishwarya did follow strict discipline and did all that was needed to ace the exam. In fact, she reactivated her Instagram account after 2 years earlier today. "I had to switch off my phone, social media, everything, to focus on the exam and the result is here. But it's not that I suddenly generated interest in studies. I was always very studious. I was the head girl in my school. I was a science student and then I went to SRCC (Sri Ram College of Commerce), so my background was such. And ultimately I gravitated back to my studies," she added.
