One thing that has come with the coronavirus outbreak is self-isolation. Gyms, colleges, offices, and schools are shut across the globe and people have been asked to stay indoors. Since it is no longer advisable to hop to your favourite food joint and pick up food, how about you get creative at home and try some healthy food recipes? Microwave Dhokla

One of the most popular Gujarati snacks, Dhokla, is quite a healthy snack when it comes to satisfying your hunger and taste buds at the same time. Perfect for an evening binge, it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

1 cup besan, 1 tsp salt & turmeric, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tbsp oil, 1 cup sour curd, 1 cup water, 1 tsp ginger paste, green chilli paste

How to prepare: Mix the besan, ginger paste, chilli paste, salt, turmeric, sugar and oil and beat in the mixture till it turns smooth. Make sure the consistency is fine. Next, pour it into a greased microwaveable dish. Leave it to cook for about 7 minutes (approx). Utilise the same time to prepare a tadka. Heat the oil. Add rai, kadhi patta and green chillies. Put it over the cooked dhokla. Garnish with chilli and coriander leaves.

Mac n Cheese

Ingredients

100g Dried macaroni, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup shredded cheese, 1/2 cup milk, salt (according to taste)

How to prepare: Boil the pasta and start cooking it in the microwave. Continue till it becomes soft and cooked. Add milk and cheese and cook it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir to make a nicely blended sauce. Add chilli flakes and oregano for an Italian flavour.

1 egg, sugar, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, salt to taste, cooked rice (100-200g)

How to prepare: Whisk sugar and egg to make the mix fluffy. Add rice once the mix is consistent and stir well after adding milk and vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into a mug and microwave for about 5 minutes. Add raisins, almonds and fresh-cut fruits for garnish.

Ingredients

1 cup flour, 1/4 cup milk, 1 tsp vinegar, 1 cup butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla essence

How to prepare: Prepare the dough by mixing flour, milk, vinegar, butter, sugar and vanilla together. Make 10 small balls out of it and flatten with a fork. Place on a greased baking tray. Use a greaseproof paper and cook for about 2.5 minutes. Turn the tray after a minute. Allow it to cool after 2-3 minutes. Add choco chips to the cookie dough for the next set of cookies that you put in the tray.

1/2 cup butter, powdered salt, 1 can condensed milk, 1/2 bowl nuts

How to prepare: Mix milk, butter and sugar together. Put in the microwave for it to melt for 7-8 minutes and stir in intervals. Leave it to cool for a couple of minutes. Add nuts and cut pieces to later munch.

1/3 cup butter, 1/2 cup flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence, 1/4 baking teaspoon powder, 1 egg, 1/2 cup milk, a pinch of salt

How to prepare: Add sugar, egg, vanilla extract and milk to prepare a mix. Add flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt and whip it to prepare a smooth mixture. Put it in a greased bowl or mug and then leave it to cook in the microwave for 3-4 minutes. Keep overlooking and take out the bowl when the cake turns bouncy. Let it cool, wait for 5 minutes to turn the mug upside down and then take it out.
