Oh My God! Ross Finally Settles The ‘We Were On A Break’ Debate After Two Decades

Honestly, you don’t have to be a Friends fanatic to know about the biggest debate on the TV show that has been going on for over two decades now. Yes, the infamous “We were on a break” debate that has stirred a lot of arguments between friends and couples time and again. Team Ross or Team Rachel has been a thing, you know.

If you need a reminder about this pivotal moment in the show: The big debate started in season 3 in the episode ‘The one with the morning after’ (1997) when a drunk Ross sleeps with another woman hours after Rachel says “Maybe we should take a break”. They have a fight about Rachel working late, even on their anniversary, and mostly because of Ross’ jealousy of her co-worker and friend Mark. After discovering that Ross had slept with another woman, Rachel accuses him of cheating but, in his defence, Ross says he didn’t cheat as they were “on a break”. This line was frequently repeated on the show, especially during this season.

Well, even though the debate is redundant as Ross obviously cheated (at least that’s what I think), we’re back to discussing this in 2020. Recently, David Schwimmer (who played Ross) addressed this on The Tonight Show when the host Jimmy Fallon brought up the argument. David opened up about how he knows that the audience is passionately divided between two sides. When asked about his side, David did not hesitate to say, “Of course, they were on a break. It is not even a debate.

Do you agree with him? Actually, I wonder if Jennifer Anniston (who played Rachel) agrees!

In this interview, David also spoke about the much-awaited reunion episode which will now be shot in August. The shooting of the same was delayed due to the COVID-19 situation. “It’s unscripted. It’s basically a really fun interview and then some other surprise bits,” David revealed. “It’s supposed to happen maybe in the middle of August, but honestly we’re gonna wait and see another week or two, determine it’s safe enough to do. And if not, then we’ll wait until it’s safe,” he added.

Currently, David Schwimmer is doing a show called Intelligence which has not started airing in India yet. Until then, the Friends rerun and the wait for the reunion will keep us going.
