Here’s How To Tell Your Boss About Your Engagement & Make Time For Planning The Wedding!

Work-life balance is a myth for most women. And once you’re in the career mode, life almost always takes a backseat. Then again, there are certain activities that define our life. Like marriage. But before the shaadi dates are fixed, it is the engagement ceremony that is most revered in the family. While your loved ones keep asking you to spare some time for the wedding planning, deep inside you know, it can be tricky to put the message across to your boss. So to avoid any disappointments along the way and to try to maintain work-life balance, it is important to keep your boss in the know-how. 1. Say the truth

Be truthful. Tell your boss about your engagement and avoid making silly excuses that can be busted later. Keep it clear and straight. Avoid a situation where your boss finds out about the engagement from a fellow colleague or your social media accounts.

2. Be up to date with your work

Keep your work up to date. Don’t let your boss point at the pending pile of work that you should have completed weeks ago. You need to show your diligence towards your job. Your performance and work assessment goes under the scanner as soon as you ask for a leave. are back from your holiday.

3. Appoint a substitute

Get someone in your team to fill in as a substitute for the time that you plan to be away. You always have that one colleague at work you can rely on blindfolded. Your strong bond and like mindedness with that friend can help you shrug off a lot of pressure.

Be available over the phone and mails. Don’t go completely missing when you take leaves to plan the wedding. That will only put you in a bad light and your team will not trust you the next time you apply for a long leave. Always respond to mails and phone calls and be available to work remotely.

Try to work a weekend to finish off your pending work. It is also a great way to demonstrate your commitment towards your work, which can earn you a few brownie points with your manager. It may cost you a bit of sleep but goes a long way in creating some goodwill.

6. Work from home

Best option! Every company allows work from home facilities to their employees. Use it! Also, it’s a good chance to prove that you are equally productive and efficient from home too.

7. Delegate the work

Never take on too much on your plate. In that way, you become a critical asset and the team doesn’t function in your absence. Delegate the work so that the team doesn’t come to a standstill.

8. Take your team and boss out for a drink

Socialize, it always helps. The more you talk to people, the more they open up to you. It creates a bond between you and your boss and they start to empathize with your situation. They soften their approach towards you and start to understand your problems.

9. Plan your leaves

Don’t ask for a 10 day vacation. It’s always a problem when an employee asks for a long leave. Rather, ask for a couple of days and try to finish off your work within that. If you can’t manage to finish it, ask for a couple more a week later.

10. Don’t forget the invitation

Lastly, invite your team and especially your boss, to the wedding. Give them the sense of belonging and they will willingly help you out.
