The 5-Step Guide to Covering Up Those Under Eye Circles Like a Pro

Those dreaded dark circles are the first things to signal a hectic work week or a late night of partying, and no amount of coffee and concealer ever seems enough to hide them. You may spend ages trying to cover them up, but those telltale below-the-eye shadows are never fully hidden – until now, that is! We give you a simple 5-step guide on how to cover eye circles like a pro. Now you can fake those 8 hours of shut-eye and look fresh as a daisy any time!

How To Hide Dark Circles Instantly ?

The Tools

  • A creamy concealer, so it glides on easily and won’t crack or gather into fine lines. If you have fair skin, look for a light peachy colour; for wheatish to dusky skin, you will want a dark peach to orange colour.
  • A liquid foundation
  • Translucent compact powder to set the concealer and give a slight sheen
  • A waterproof mascara so it doesn’t smudge and accentuate those dark circle.

Step 1: Where to Apply the Concealer

Make sure your concealer is a shade or two darker than your skin tone so it can hide those circles properly. Instead of covering up the entire under eye area, form a semicircle using your ring finger starting from the innermost corners of your eye down towards the cheek. This is typically where actual dark circles appear.

Step 2: How to cover eye circles by blending properly

Once you have applied your concealer on the dark circles only, use your finger or a soft, damp sponge to gently blend the edges around your eyes. Next, smudge on a foundation that is the same colour as your skin tone to make your peachy concealer appear more natural. Make sure to blend the concealer into the foundation, but don’t cake it on. We love M.A.C Matchmaster Foundation for its high-coverage, plus it’s available in a variety of shades, so you can definitely find the right match for you.

Step 3: Brighten Up

If you feel like those circles of doom are still somewhat visible, dab on a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin tone to cover it up and also brighten up the area. A concealer pen like YSL Touche Eclat is fantastic for brightening up the under-eye area while still looking natural

Step 4: Set It

To set your concealer in place to last you for the rest of the day, and to stop it from creasing, apply a thin layer of compact powder using a dome shaped brush or a flat thin sponge. Want to know how to cover eye circles  with the perfect powder? Well, we love the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder for applying on your whole face without looking too made up.

Step 5: Open Up Those Peepers

For the finishing touch, and to make your eyes look bright and awake, you can line the inner rims of your lower eyes with a dark brown pencil, brush on a matte eyeshadow that is two shades lighter than your skin into the crease of your eyes and top it off with a generous swipe of mascara on your upper lashes only. No will ever doubt that you slept like anything other than a baby all night long. It can be your little secret! 😉
