5 Men Who Took Refreshing Risks At Cannes 2024

In everyday life, men have it better than we do. This is not an assumption, it’s a fact. They get paid better, there’s more representation, and being the firstborn son is an innate value no merit can compete with. But when it comes to red carpets, they are almost always, woefully overlooked (also because they’re almost always under-dressed for the occasion).

Over the past few years, though, they have begun to implement more fluidity into their silhouettes and ideation, I find myself waiting to watch how far they can go. The radical movement and grace we saw on the 2024 runways has swayed me into being unironically interested in their ensembles. At the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the spotlight shone on men who definitely stole the show. Chris Hemsworth, take notes – this is how it’s done.

Ankush Bahuguna

While Ankush Bahuguna’s red carpet outfit was brilliant, I find myself more drawn to his after party look by Rajdeep Ranawat. The nails, the eyes and the jewellery say glam like nothing else. What a look, king!

Rahi Chadda

Rahi Chadda is a British Indian content creator, one of the first brown male ambassadors for the couture house, Dior. And within good reason. His bold silhouettes and graceful poise totally stole the show. Dressed in Yves Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, it’s giving Harry Styles if Styles knew his undertones and how to pose for the camera. Also, have you seen that highlighter and those brows?

Alioune Badara Fall

Another great example of tailoring, Alioune Badara Fall. A creative, model and designer, this man was made to wear this outfit. I mean the vibe of this picture, the pose – I’m all for it. I usually hate the no brow look but he’s really making it work.

Alton Mason

Man, every man of colour on this carpet really brought their A game. I’m so glad the era of black tuxes are over. Please everyone, put your hands together for Alton Mason. In a fit by the unisex powerhouse, LGN LOUIS GABRIEL NOUCHI, this entire look was *chefs kiss* – From the cornrows to the smoky eye, 10/10.

King

Arpan Kumar Chandel, better known as King, is a testament to the global reach of Indian hip-hop. In an outfit by the talented Anamika Khanna, the whole look screams iconic!

As the 77th Cannes Film Festival continues to celebrate cinematic brilliance, it’s clear that men’s fashion and makeup has truly come into its own. No longer confined to the predictable black tuxedo, today’s red carpet sees men embracing bold silhouettes, vibrant colors, and intricate designs. This shift not only highlights the evolving landscape of menswear but also sets a new standard for future events.
