That’s why we’ve found 10 of the most stunning- and useful – buns for long hair that will have you ready for almost anything, day or night!
This super-cute bun is so simple to do and really adds a bit of a wow factor to every single outfit!
Step 1: Divide your hair into three sections. Make two out of the hair from your crown and one with the hair remaining.
Step 2: Clip the crown hair on either side.
Step 3: Divide the remaining hair in two and tie this into a knot!
Step 4: Then, underneath the first knot, make a second knot.
Step 5: You can repeat this step as many times as you want to, depending on the length of your hair.
Step 6: When you have made the knots, take a clear elastic and tie the ends of the hair so they are secure. Tuck the leftover ends into the bun. Secure the ends with bobby pins.
Step 7: Take the left section of hair from the crown, and loosely wrap it around the bun; repeat this with the other side of hair, making sure it overlaps the left side, and secure the wrapped hair with bobby pins.
This is such a gorgeous hairstyle for any girl-on-the-go who wants to add a bit of feminine flair to her outfit! And…it really does only take two minutes to do!
Step 1: Begin by applying hair spray to your hair so it is more manageable.
Step 2: Starting from the hair around your forehead, take a small section from the base and start twisting it in one direction towards the side of your face.
Step 3: Add small sections of hair, from the same side, along the way – keeping them near but not too tight.
Step 4: Do this around your whole head until you run out of hair to add to the twist.
Step 5: Tie the twist with a small hair elastic and secure it into the first parts of the hair you twisted! And you’re done!
Let’s be honest, there are days – and nights – when nothing is more appreciated and loved than the messy bun. It is a staple for every girl who has long hair! But you might as well look effortlessly hot at the same time, right?
Step 1: Gather your hair into a high – very high – ponytail. Use one hand to hold this in place and the other hand to gather the ends of your hair too form a loose loop. Clip it and put the hair on top of your head.
Step 2: Pull the remaining strands around the bun, so they are wrapped around the base.
Step 3: Use a hair tie to secure this bun, holding it loosely in place.
Step 4: Now pull sections of the bun to make it bigger.
Step 5: To keep the height of the bun, put a clip at the back of the bun. Lift the bun slightly and secure it in place! Gather hair around it to hide the clip!
Step 6: If strands are falling out of the bun at this point, don’t worry as this is where the bobby pins come in – use them to secure any flyaway strands.
You could always pull out some strands from the side to give it that straight-out-of-bed look!
This is such a pretty bun, and the braid really gives it that extra touch of detail! Plus, it’s a great way to use a hair donut. If you don’t have one though, you could always cut out the foot of an old sock and roll it up to make a donut!
Step 1: Brush your hair and gather it into a high ponytail – secure this with a hair tie.
Step 2: Using your hair donut, pull the hair from the ponytail through and spread your hair all around it (so that it is no longer visible). Get another hair tie and wrap this around the hair to make a bun.
Step 3: Gather the remaining hair and bring it to the back to make a regular three-section braid.
Step 4: Wrap this braid around the base of the donut bun – securing the ends of the braid inside the bun. Be sure to fasten it with bobby pins!
This is basically the perfect updo. It’s easy-breezy but looks amazing! It has so much soft detailing that it would complement so many outfits: from fancy cocktail dresses to a jeans and T-shirt kind of look!
Step 1: Lightly tease the crown of your hair.
Step 2: Part your hair into four sections (this will make it easier for you). Separate these sections using clips.
Step 3: Section the front part of your hair and clip them on either side of your face. Use the hair from your crown as another section, and the remaining hair as the fourth section.
Step 4: Tie the fourth section in a ponytail and use your fingers to tease the strands upwards and use this to form a low bun. Secure this with bobby pins.
Step 5: Now take the two side sections, and divide them into smaller sections on each side, then twist them towards the bun. Alternating sides, twist them towards the centre of the bun and wrap them around, securing them with bobby pins.
Step 6: Do the same with the crown section, making sure the hair is pulled back when doing so.
You can leave some hair out around your face to give a softer look.
This bun is perfect for people with curly hair; if not, you can always curl your hair using tongs or curlers beforehand – curls give this bun the volume it needs to amp up your average hair day to an OMG-WOW hair day!
Step 1: Once your hair is curled, divide the hair on your crown into small sections and start to tease it using a comb.
Step 2: Gather your teased hair from both sides and secure it at the back using bobby pins.
Step 3: From the remaining hair, take a small section from one side, near your ear, and begin to twist it into tight spirals.
Step 4: Hold the spiral tightly with one hand, and use the other to gently pull the spiral up towards your head for extra volume.
Step 5: Now take the twisted section straight over and secure it with bobby pins just under the quiff you made earlier.
Step 6: Repeat this on the other side of your hair and be sure to secure this under the first section, making sure it is as close to the first section as you can.
Step 7: Now you have to repeat these two steps on alternate sides until there is no hair left! You will be left wowed by the results !
This simple bun is extremely cute, and will amp up every single outfit!
Step 1: Tie your hair up in a high ponytail and take a small section and wrap it around the base of the ponytail to hide the hair tie. Secure this with bobby pins.
Step 2: Separate a small section from the top of the ponytail and clip it to the side for now. Divide the remaining bit of the ponytail into two equal parts.
Step 3: For each part of hair, take a hair tie and tie it around halfway the part. Make sure they are secured at the same length for each side.
Step 4: Now, take a section and curl it inward to form one of the sides of the bow. Secure this at the top and bottom with bobby pins. Repeat with the other side.
Step 5: Take the remaining hair and loop it around your finger to tuck it inside the bow – adding lots of volume and making a neat, full bow!
Step 6: Pull the leftover hair down to fill the mid-section of the bow. Secure it at the base, under the bow, and take the ends and tuck them into one side of the bow, as before!
8. The 60s Bouffant
Buns were oh-so-popular back in the wonder years, and it’s no surprise why! These classy updos will work so well, whether you want to amp things up with a saree or even add an extra touch of chic to your office look!
Step 1: With your hair down, separate the front sections around your ear and pin them up.
Step 2: Then divide your hair in two sections – bottom and top.
Step 3: Pull the lower part in a rough bun.
Step 4: Take the remaining hair from the top section, starting from your crown, and tease it using a comb to create volume.
Step 5: Gather the hair to form a pouf and use the comb to smooth it, so you can’t see the teasing.
Step 6: Twist the ends together and use them to form a bun to tuck into the pouf.
Step 7: Comb the front strands you had sectioned earlier and slick them back and pin them on either side of the pouf.
Step 8: Repeat the above steps with the lower section of your hair – starting with the teasing.
Step 9: Now collect the hair together and twist it. Roll the hair down, tuck under and pin it in place – hiding the roll underneath the bun.
You can add a headband for a retro-finished effect!
This is basically the perfect everyday bun. It’s neat and tidy but still has a bit of dramatic flair thanks to its retro appeal!
Step 1: Separate your hair into two sections, as if you were making a half ponytail.
Step 2: Clip the top section up and make a low pony tail out of the bottom section
Step 3: Take two bobby pins and attach them to a small hair elastic. Use this elastic to make a small bun out of the lower section, but don’t pull the hair through. Use the pins to fasten this in place.
Step 4: Let the ponytail drop and roll the ends of the hair below the bun you just made to create a loop. Secure this with pins.
Step 6: Take the top section down and divide it into two, on either side of the bun you just made.
Step 7: Twist and wrap each section around the loop from opposite sides – secure with hairpins, and you’re done!
And…if you’re ever in a bind and need a bun that will work wonders for any occasion! Go for this chic inverted bun!
Step 1: Part your hair from one side – drawing your hair around the line of your eyebrow.
Step 2: Brush through your hair so it’s smooth and manageable.
Step 3: Start to make a ponytail, but when you are tying it up and reach the last twist of your hair tie, do not put all the hair through – this will leave you with a loose bun.
Step 4: Roll up the bun and rest it on your hair elastic.
Step 5: Make a hole above the bun and tuck all of the remaining hair into that hole, making sure not to pull all the hair through the bottom!
Step 6: Now, neatly tuck all the hair into the ponytail and keep tucking it in till it looks tidy.
Step 7: Use bobby pins on either side of the bun to secure it in place!
