We’re Convinced That Ya’ll Are Using The Wrong Hair Brush!

We’re Convinced That Ya’ll Are Using The Wrong Hair Brush!

For someone born in the ’90s, the choices for anything weren’t many. But when it came to hair, they were fewer than usual. The only options any middle-class person had were coconut oil and almond oil, a wide-tooth comb or a round barrel hair brush, and a u-cut or a v-cut. Today, the options are countless. Today, we’ve got so many options for everything — hair oils for every type of hair and hair cuts based on hair porosity and your face shape. But did you know you should also choose a hairbrush or comb based on your hair type? Because I learned this 29 years too late.

So, not all hair brushes are meant for all hair types. If you use the right serum, shampoo, conditioner and blow-dry method based on your hair type, not using the right hair brush can take you a few steps back. The right hair brush makes all the difference to how your hair looks.

The Kind Of Hair Brush You Need To Use Based On Your Hair

Detangling Brush – All Hair Types

This is designed to detangle and remove knots from your hair without causing any breakage. It can be used on thick and very fine hair and both wet and dry hair. It’s also perfect for kids since it removes the knots without tugging or causing pain.

I also love to use this in the shower after applying a hair mask to comb through and ensure every strand of hair is coated with the product.

The Alan Truman detangling brush is one of the best in the business and is so affordable.

Paddle Brush – Oily or dry hair/ Straight hair

Because of its wide base, this brush is perfect for covering much ground. Since they mostly come with soft bristles, this brush is perfect for distributing oils from the scalp all through the hair without being too harsh on the scalp.

Wide Tooth Comb – Curly Hair

Since these combs have much space between their teeth, they’re the perfect choice for those with curly or wavy hair. They enhance the curls and help keep their shape intact.

The wide-tooth comb is also the best choice to detangle wet hair since the bristles are far apart and won’t break the hair where knotted.

Rat Tail Comb – Teasing, Styling, and separating hair

Another popular choice in salons, this comb gets its name from its very long and thin handle. This thin handle is perfect for sectioning out hair to style or colour every section. The bristles of this comb are also very close, making it perfect to tease and back-comb the hair to give it more volume.

The Vega Professional Tail Comb is affordable and multi-functional.

Round Brush – Styling Long, Fine Hair

You must’ve seen your hairstylist often reaching out for this brush during a blowdry or styling session if you have longer and finer hair. It not only helps the hair dry out faster since the round shape makes it easy to dry the lower section of the hair but is also the best bet for getting a more voluminous look.

Boar Bristle Brush – Frizzy Hair

Thanks to the high density of bristles on this brush, it holds on to even the finest strand of hair and pins it down. It also works well to distribute the oils in the scalp and gives hair an overall smooth and sleek look.

Choosing the right tool for your hair type makes all the difference. As someone with wavy hair and an oily scalp, for the longest time, I thought the round brush was meant for me before my hairstylist introduced me to the paddle brush. Investing in a good one really transformed my hair texture and enhanced it further!
