Beyonce, a name synonymous with not just music but also an ever-evolving style, has now ventured into the realm of haircare with the launch of Cécred. This isn’t just another celebrity line, it’s a tribute to her personal and familial haircare journey, infused with the wisdom of her mom, Ms. Tina Knowles and grandmother Agnéz Deréon.
“My entire life and career, I’ve worn my hair in so many different ways: natural, flat-ironed, braids, coloured, weaves, wigs. I want everyone to have the freedom to express their hair in ways that make them feel good, so I began by creating the essentials for hair and scalp health. My vision is to be an inclusive force of excellence in the haircare industry while celebrating hair rituals across global cultures and helping dispel hair myths and misconceptions on all sides,” said the singer in a press release.
Bey’s passion for haircare is born from lived experience. Hair has always been a big part of the star’s journey, so much so that her first job was sweeping hair at her mother’s salon. In fact, Destiny’s Child started by performing for Tina Knowles’ clients who had come to get their hair done; now, the multitalented grandmother joins Cécred as vice chairwoman, bringing her 40 years of influence as a hairstylist, salon owner, and entrepreneur.
Rooted in family traditions, Cécred promises to nourish and celebrate textured hair, drawing on the natural remedies and protective styles that Beyonce herself grew up with. “From my mother’s salon, daily rituals with my father, and years of experience in developing a hair care line, the journey has been just that: Cécred,” she says in an interview with Essence. After six years of meticulous development, dodging shady deals, and perfecting formulas, the brand stands as a testament to Beyoncé’s dedication to inclusivity and quality in haircare.
The Foundation Collection
The unveiling of the eight-piece Foundation Collection is nothing short of a luxurious revelation. With packaging that whispers ancient elegance, each product is a blend of traditional recipes and innovative formulas.
One of the biggest contributions of this collection to the haircare industry is its Bioactive Keratin Ferment: a technology utilising well-derived keratin, honey, and lactobacillus ferment. This addition to the formulation makes keratin proteins small enough to penetrate deep within each strand, matching and replacing protein to visibly repair and strengthen weak or damaged hair. Additionally, each product is carefully marketed without silicone in an attempt to offer deep hydration and a healthy foundation.
Here’s what the first launch involves:
- Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub ($38): This dual-action cleanser combines purple willow bark and tea tree oil with lactic acid and gentle beads to refresh and invigorate the scalp.
- Hydrating Shampoo ($30): Packed with hyaluronic acid, this shampoo promises to envelop your hair in moisture, setting the stage for a thorough cleanse.
- Moisturizing Deep Conditioner ($38): Shea and murumuru butters merge to deeply nourish and condition the hair, leaving it supple and hydrated.
- Reconstructing Treatment Mask ($42): A groundbreaking formula featuring a “bioactive keratin ferment” to penetrate deeply and restore weakened hair.
- Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual ($52): An innovative, intense treatment that strengthens hair with a unique two-step process, acting as a “protein shake” for your locks.
- Moisture Sealing Lotion ($38) & Nourishing Hair Oil ($44): These stylers seal in moisture and provide a lightweight hold, with a blend of nourishing oils to finish off your routine.
- Nourishing Hair Oil ($44 ): A blend of 13 oils and plant-based extracts that adds a soft shine and helps seal in moisture.
With this line, Beyonce’s goal seems crystal clear. It is an attempt to give textured hair the spotlight and love it needs, has always needed. This haircare brand appeals to every type of hair because, like she said – hair is not one-size-fits-all, everything has to be personalised.
