Skincare 101: Breaking Down The Difference Between Body Lotion, Cream, Butter & Yogurt!

Even though winters have almost gone now, it’s still important to keep your skin moisturised and hydrated. We all pay a lot of attention to the skin on our faces but ignore our bodies most of the time. We spend lots and lots of money buying serums, essences, and creams for our faces but don’t give our body the same TLC. So, let’s make a vow to change that this year.

If you’re confused about whether to buy a body lotion, body butter, body cream, or body yogurt to keep your skin nourished, then we’re here to help you out. So let’s get massaging cause happy and healthy skin is totally in!

What Is A Body Lotion?

This is one of the OG skincare products and has been in the market forever. It is mostly formulated with water and a little bit of oil and is suitable for all skin types. A body lotion is light and has a semi-liquid consistency. It is meant for light moisturisation of the body and doesn’t penetrate deep into the skin. There are also many variants of this in the market ranging from ones for dry skin to sensitive skin and even those with SPF benefits.

Suitable for: All skin types

What Is A Body Butter?

Body butters are intense skin moisturisers that have a super thick consistency and are mostly made up of carrier oils and essential butters. They also contain very little water as compared to lotions and yogurts and are rich and creamy. They are perfect for the winter months and for people with dry and flaky skin. They also have a very strong scent thanks to the ingredients they are made with and manage to quench the skin and maintain the skin’s protective barrier.

Suitable for: Dry and flaky skin

What Is A Body Cream?

Body creams are usually somewhere in the middle of lotions and butters. They are not as thick as butters but are more solid than creams. They are emollient which means that they soften and moisturize the skin and decrease itching and flaking but aren’t as hydrating and effective as body butters. They are thick and nourishing so are great for people with normal to dry skin. People with oily skin can also use them in the colder months when the body requires a boost of hydration.

Body Lotion For Oily Skin

Suitable for: Normal to dry skin

What Is A Body Yogurt?

Body yogurts are the newest addition to the skincare fam and these basically get absorbed really fast into the skin. They are made with bio-fermented hyaluronic acid which keeps the skin moisturised and keeps the rough, dry patches at bay. They’re mostly made with vegetable-derived glycerine, almond milk, and fruit extracts and are supposed to be applied to damp skin. They aren’t too greasy and thick and hence are perfect for people with normal to combination skin.

Suitable for: Normal to combination skin

Now that you understand what each product is and which one would work best for your skin, we hope that you add it to your cart and give your body a long and indulgent massage.
