#BeautyDiaries: My Hair Turned A Flaming Shade Of Maroon!

As much as I want to erase this memory, I don’t think I could ever forget the horror! Even though it happened 7 years ago, I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

Back in the day, red highlights were all the rage. I mean girls everywhere, even in ads on television and in serials, were all sporting red hair. It was a trend I really wanted to experiment with! So during my summer vacation, I decided to ask my mom if I could get my hair coloured. She agreed and took me to some salon somewhere in the suburbs of Bombay.

Since it was my first time, I was nervous about them having the right tools and the skill to do a good job. I eventually decided to take the risk and trust them completely. I remember the salon lady applying a gooey mask on my hair and asking me to wash it off once I got home. I did exactly what she asked me to do.

As soon as I got home, I threw my tote aside, freshened up and hastily made my way to the bathroom. It took me almost an hour to wash, shampoo and condition my hair.

After towel-drying my hair, I ran to the mirror to see if it had changed colour. You know what?! NOTHING happened! I was furious and thought I got cheated! Even my mom and sister couldn’t tell the difference. Paranoid with all I effort I had put into this, I decided to call it a night.

The next morning, I woke up to my sister screaming as if the house was on fire! She told me that something really off had happened to my hair and I should take a look in the mirror. I jumped out of bed to catch a glimpse of my hair. You know what?! It turned red! And not the good kind of red at that. Bright maroon to be precise! I looked like a redhead!

I screamed so loudly at my reflection that I woke everyone up at home! Mom and dad came running out and couldn’t believe what they saw. I had officially and unknowingly made the biggest mistake of my life.

I was beyond embarrassed and didn’t step out from my room for an entire day. My mom had to pick up a black dye and recolour my hair from scratch.

After that incident, I’ve never coloured my hair again. Even If I do in the future, I’m going to do my research and pick a decent salon with skilled professionals. Till that time comes, I’m really content with my jet black curls.
