Alternative Drape Style Ensembles You Can Wear… None Of Them Are A Saree!

Draping is for sarees what toasting is for bread, it’s a process that is so intrinsic to the item, that they have almost become synonymous. But even though you think of bread whenever a ‘toast’ is mentioned, the process can be used on other foods (can you tell I am a foodie, yet?). While you don’t always have to rely on finding the perfect saree to sport a draped look, other alternative styles are making quite a case for themselves anyway!

From casual and almost lazy drapes to long rails draped on gowns, these are some of the new and improved styles you need to check out. Expertly styled by our favourite celebs, they are serving some major outfit inspiration for your next shaadi style.

1. Golden Tissue Galore

When sister Rhea Kapoor decided to pair Rashmi Varma‘s gild golden saree with a smock jumper, eyebrows were raised. Instead of pairing the saree with a traditional blouse, this look was created by casually draping the fabric length over a jumper and dropping the pallu on the front.

2. Dhoti Skirt/Pants

Called as ‘Drape Style’ in the fashion circles, more and more designers are incorporating this mock dhoti look in their creations. Paired up with a cropped top and long jacket, you can re-create this look for a gorgeous summer Sangeet!

POPxo Recommends: Sky Blue Crop Top With Aqua Dhoti Wrap Skirt (Rs 1,549)

3. Peach Separates

Ethnic suit sets have taken a turn for the wild and imaginative these days. Soha’s Sonam Luthria three-piece set is made up of a cropped kurta paired with dhoti pants and a mesh dupatta. Three uniquely designed pieces paired together to reach peach perfection!

4. Red Hot Ruffles

Anamika Khanna reinvented drape styles at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring Summer 2018 showcase. This ruffled vibe was carefully achieved by a collected pallu draped over a silk skirt, pinned to the waist and give the impression of multiple layers of fabric.

5. Draped Kurta Sets

We love this look on Urvashi Rautela, an ensemble fit for the lovers of all things contemporary, a draped kurta set is sure to make heads turn wherever you go. It’s simple, smart and can be appropriately styled for any kind of event which calls on you to up the style quotient.

6. Of Trails On Gowns

Katrina Kaif never shies away from trying outlandish fashion and her collaboration with favourite designer Manish Malhotra often results in many innovative and fabulous looks. Draping a floor kissing white trail on her figure-hugging golden gown is one such instance, where the star-designer duo defied the norms of dressing up for a Sangeet and came out looking like the winner!

POPxo Recommends: Kalidaar Gown With Net Kashmiri Trail (Rs 1,10,000)

7. Fusion Embroidery

One fashionista who has been on our radar for a while, Mahira Khan always stands out with her offbeat styles rooted in cultural and traditional designs. In this embroidered ivory ensemble from Élan, the actress has given a slimming and fusion spin to the saree (we even spotted a pair of pants among the separates!)

POPxo Recommends: Elan Net And Silver Tissue Cape Style Kurta Set (Rs 65,000)
