No Salon? No Problem! Here’s How To Give Your Oily Skin Some TLC This Summer

Out of the very few things that I hate about summer, my oily skin reigns numero uno on the list. It’s just transition weather right now, most people are struggling with dryness, and my nose is already slippery. My awkwardly placed glasses would tell. Of course, I am dreading whatever follows next. Now, in normal circumstances, I would  have ideally gone to my trusty salon for a nice face spa sesh, the kind that leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean and refreshed. However, the pandemic is in full swing (again!!!) and visiting a salon is simply out of the question.

That’s not to say that I am planning to leave my skin  to reckless abandon. Nope, not with all the stress that’s already doing its part and making things worse. In fact, I know exactly what to do this year with my skin, all thanks to the 2020 lockdown and all that it taught me about necessities. But let’s not go into that dark alley and stick to the facial care routine for oily skin. Read on.

Here’s How To Give Your Oily Skin Some Heavy Duty TLC This Summer

Here’s a confession: I haven’t been to a salon in over a year and frankly I am doing just fine. The secret? Lots of trial and error and spending a good one year in learning what works best for oily skin. Here’s everything you need to know about taking care of your skin during summer.

Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse

It goes without saying that your skin needs to be absolutely clean before anything else. Start your day with a nice cleanse and then only follow with your regular skincare products. That said, you might want to steer clear of cream-based or extra hydrating products for they might just worsen the entire oily skin situation for you. Also, no harsh soap based cleansers please. They’ll irritate your skin into producing more oil and no one wants that. You can try Green Tea Pore Cleansing Face Wash by Plum. It is soap-free face wash and comes packed with the goodness of glycolic acid and soft cellulose beads.

Ice, Ice, Baby!

This step will turbocharge your summer routine by nicely toning and soothing it. It is an effective practice that does not get enough credit and can literally transform your skin. All you gotta go is cleanse your face and then rub an ice cube on your face in circular motion for five minutes. You can (and should) do this every day and the matte sheen that your skin has post the massage is sure to make you a fan. Once done, spritz your face with a light toner and go claim the world with that non-oily glow!

Exfoliate Please!

Oily skin produces excess sebum which can clog your skin and lead to zits. This is why exfoliating should be a part of your summer care routine in case you have oily skin. Scrub your face once a week but DO NOT use harsh scrubs ‘coz they will 10/10 kill your skin and make the ride bumpier (you know what I mean). You’d need a gently exfoliating scrub that does the task while being super easy on your skin. With a powerful combination of walnut shell granules and soft cellulose beads, Plum’s Green Tea Gentle Revival Face Scrub fits the bill pretty well.

Moisturise

I’d run out of fingers if I were to use my hands to count the number of people who have told me that oily skin does not need to be moisturised. That’s complete hogwash and my darlings, moisturising your oily skin is important every single day! Might we recommend a mattifying product that hydrates your skin without making it look like a stale patty? Also, invest in a good night cream and use it religiously!

That said, on humid days, you can also go for something extremely light and we recommend that you invest in a good aloe vera gel for the purpose.

Mask Up

Well, the world knows about the importance of a face mask but as you might have guessed we are talking about a different (but equally important) mask here. You should use a face mask once every week to rejuvenate your skin and Plum’s Green Tea Clear Face Mask would be a great addition to your mask collection.

Use Sunscreen!

We legit have songs about the importance of wearing sunscreen and that’s a great argument right there. You just cannot live without sunscreen. It’s just wrong! Irrespective of whether you are leaving the house or not, take a generous dollop of that sunscreen, slather it on your skin and it will thank you later.
