My boyfriend and I had been seeing each other for a long time until he decided to move to The United States for further studies. We tried doing the whole long distance thing for some time but I broke up with him eventually because of the endless fights and problems. Since we’d always been friends first and boyfriend-girlfriend later, we remained friends.
It was after about six months or so that I met a guy from my locality, Gaurav, who I was instantly attracted to. I thought I had finally found the guy of my dreams. He was good looking, charming, great to talk to and we got along pretty well too. We went out for a good six months after which I felt he had become a little cold towards me. What I thought was the fading away of the honeymoon period turned out to be something completely unexpected.
I found out that he was actually two-timing! He was cheating on me with someone else and I was shattered. It wasn’t something I had expected, at all or wanted to believe, as well. So I confronted him. He apologized to me and promised that he would never do it again. So, I decided to forgive him and gave him another chance. But I guess I shouldn’t have because he cheated on me, again. And this time was worse than the first.
I was distraught and really heartbroken. I told all this to Rohan (my ex) and he told me I was foolish to have trusted him again. He cared for me, sent me flowers and video called me every day to ask how I felt and helped me overcome that very difficult phase.
It had been more than three months since I’d broken up with Gaurav, and Rohan and I were still talking as friends. That’s when my brother told me that may be Rohan still loved me and probably wanted me to be in his life. I ignored it as a passing thought at that point but realized that it was, in fact true, when he sent me the biggest cake, all my favourite products and so many other gifts for my birthday all the way from the US at midnight. I was touched.
That day I realized that you should never run after the person you love, rather you should be with the person who loves you.
In October, I decided to take up a course in the US and thought of paying him a surprise visit. I reached his place directly as I had planned this with his brother, whom he stayed with. I rang the bell, and I was really really nervous. But well, I finally met him and gave him the tightest hug! I could see the happiness in his eyes and even I was quite taken aback to see the wide grin on his face. He went down on his knee and told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t have any doubt and felt like that was the best thing that could have happened to me! I fell in love with my ex and I think that’s when I realized distance only makes the heart grow fonder!
