You know when they say, “You don’t marry a person; you, in fact, wed their entire family”? Guess what…it’s universally true. While you would leave no stone unturned to impress his people, going overboard can certainly backfire too. This in-law thing is a tricky road, so tread easy. Take a few hints from here and NEVER do these…
A total no-no. Even if it’s a tiny-miny fib to make an impact – like your work or your family’s assets - it can go wrong in the larger scheme of things. Remember, tact and diplomacy are not the same as lying.
2. Forcing a familiarity that doesn’t exist yet
Going all nosy about that distant aunt and her neighbor won’t fetch you too far. Better to let the relationship and closeness develop over time, naturally.
3. Disclosing the whole shebang
This includes revealing everything from how grand your outings with your partner are, how you once made a fortune at the stock market to how guys thought you were ‘hottt’ in college. You are awesome and let the light shine on you through your actions not your brags.
4. Being perfect
No one is flawless and your in-laws know that. So when you go out of your way to look like the ‘impeccable bahu’ it’ll be a problem...for you! You’ll have to keep up this facade of being the perfect bahu your entire life. Isn’t that tiring?
5. Trying to be too traditional
Especially if you are not – don’t. We’re sure they know how modern most girls these days are, so if you are trying to earn the ‘sanskari bahu’ badge, you will only make it difficult for yourself later on. Stay updated about their traditions and beliefs but stick to yours as well.
