Beautiful ringlets can be achieved without a bucket load of products and hair styling tools. Here are the simple steps that I follow as part of my regular hair care routine that will probably give you insight into how to manage and maintain fabulous curly hair.

#1: Know How To Detangle Well

Vega Large Shampoo Comb, How To Care For Naturally Curly Hair in 6 Easy Steps! | POPxo, caring for curly hairI use a wide-tooth comb to detangle my hair before I oil or wash it. I twist my hair and start to comb it slowly from the bottom. I would not recommend combing your hair when it is wet, as it will break easily. Also, if you want to wear it curly, don't comb it after you wash it. Use a good wide-toothed comb like Vega Large Shampoo Comb to make sure it detangles well without damaging your hair.

#2: Oil Your Hair Regularly

Cold-pressed Coconut Oil from Forrest Essentials, How To Care For Naturally Curly Hair in 6 Easy Steps! | POPxo, caring for curly hairHair oil would make my forehead breakout, so until very recently I never oiled my hair. I now use Cold-pressed Coconut Oil from Forest Essentials, which does not irritate my skin. If you face a similar problem, I recommend this - avoid the crown of your head when massaging the oil into your scalp. A cloth hair band also prevents the oil from trickling down to your forehead and is a simple fix-it if you have sensitive skin. I leave the oil in my hair for no more than 30 minutes. Works wonders.

#3: Note These Hair Wash Secrets

Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin 2 shampoo, How To Care For Naturally Curly Hair in 6 Easy Steps! | POPxo, caring for curly hairI workout six days a week so I end up washing my hair almost 4 times a week. On an average,  a hair wash twice or thrice a week should be good enough for curly hair.  The idea is to keep the scalp and hair clean.  Since my hair is very dry and thick, I am currently using Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin 2 shampoo for dry, sensitised hair. Check the ingredients and avoid shampoos that list lauryl sulphates - they are harsh detergents and don't work for dry hair. (Note: Lauryl Sulphates - harsh detergents are different from Laureth Sulphates - gentle detergents).

#4: Condition And Maintain

Kérastase Nutritive Oleo-Curl Intense, How To Care For Naturally Curly Hair in 6 Easy Steps! | POPxo, caring for curly hairI wash and rinse my hair twice with each shampoo and follow it up with a good conditioner. I am using Kérastase Nutritive Oleo-Curl Intense for its hydrating properties, which I keep for five minutes and then wash off completely.  A common mistake is to use shampoos and conditioners for permed hair. These products are suitable for chemically treated hair and not for naturally curly hair, so best to give them a miss.

#5: Give Some After-Shower Love

LOreal-Full-Volume-Tecni-Art-Force-4-Extra-Volume-13.6-ounce-Mousse-9ea78da4-24d9-44f8-9669-c878f5d7b73c_320, How To Care For Naturally Curly Hair in 6 Easy Steps! | POPxo, caring for curly hairAfter the shower, gently blot the hair with a towel. If you rub wet hair with a towel, it will add to the frizz. The last step of this basic routine is to apply the L'Oreal Professional Full Volume Mousse #4 on towel dried hair. I shake the bottle and spray some of the mousse on my hands. I flip my hair over and scrunch the mousse on the entire length of the hair. The amount of mousse depends on the length and thickness of your hair. I prefer to use a mousse over gel, as I don't like my hair to be stiff. Also, anti-frizz serums leave the top of my head looking oily.

#6: Try To Get Natural Curls

For those tight dense curls, How To Care For Naturally Curly Hair in 6 Easy Steps! | POPxo, caring for curly hairHairdryers just make curly hair go pouf! Leave your hair to air dry and you'll have soft bouncing curls with minimal amount of frizz. For best results, I wash my hair at bedtime and leave it to air dry through the night. This way I have tight-defined curls in the morning, which are ready to be styled any way I like.
