I seriously don’t know how to begin this article because Instagram just notified me about Deepika Padukone’s next look from Cannes 2019 and I’m so overwhelmed. A ‘Wow!’ is all I can manage at the moment. This would be the right time for the Oxford Dictionary to introduce new words so I can stop using the word ‘stunning’ over and over again.
*After taking a deep breath…*
Deepika Padukone is looking drop dead gorgeous in a black tulle dress that is off-the-shoulder on one side and has a pretty neon bralette on the other. Her stylist, Shaleena Nathani, has termed this look “#casual” and teamed it with:
1. A pair of black tinted sunglasses in a matching neon frame
2. A sling bag matching the bralette
3. And a pair of black platform sneakers
Everything in this look, from head-to-toe, is by the Milan-based Italian brand Off-White™. If this is casual, boy, we have been doing it wrong all this time! Everything about this look is statement-making and a wonderful lesson on how we can include neon in our OOTDs.
Falling in love with the bright and vivid colour already? It’s such a summer-friendly hue and, in fact, perfect for dusky women. So, take cues from DP and include neon in your wardrobe freely. Here’s how you can start:
#1 Go for neon accessories such as handbags, sunglasses, belts or scarves.
#2 Pick neon items with some amount of print on it so they don’t feel too loud. We like how the Padmaavat actress took care of two hot trends – neon and snakeskin print – at once.
#3 Pair your neon item with other dark shades like navy blue and charcoal grey to balance out the look.

The trick is to keep it simple. You don’t want a lot of colours when going with neon as that could be distracting and off-putting.
Lastly, whatever you do, do it with confidence and you can never go wrong.
