Gen Zs use fashion as a form of self-expression. The upbeat vibrancy and the graphical imagery that incorporates the tech flair of this day and age without distancing itself from the everlasting influence of the past are core to Gen Z fashion. Holding on to the sentiment, Skechers is revolutionising streetwear in India with their new limited-edition capsule collection: Retroverse.
Designed by Kanika Goyal, the Skechers Retroverse collection was launched at the Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. It’s the perfect blend of the timeless allure of the past and the vibrant contemporary flair. The collection caters to modern sensibilities while incorporating nostalgia, graphics, glitch-like artsy, cyberpunk, and dreamy themes of the vapor-wave and vapor-core aesthetics.
Fashion trends are cyclical — what goes around, comes around. Throughout fashion history, certain trends have transcended time to become timeless classics. The dynamism, vibe, and feel of Skechers from the 90s and 2000s epitomized this, making it an icon. Now, Skechers is re-awakening this iconic style through its latest collection.
As we know, the Y2K trend re-emerged in the fashion scene a while ago. We’ve been revisiting the 90s, but Retroverse resurrects the 80s too. Establishing another key breakthrough in the pop culture styling discourse, the collection is edgy, forward-thinking, and the ultimate ode to retro fashion.
I mean, just take a look –
The collection can be viewed as a milestone as it perfectly captures the evolving pulse of the fashion landscape. It meshes the urban taste of the present with the sci-fi enigma of the 80s, the bold silhouettes of the 90s, and the eclectic style of the early 2000s. While it exudes the essence of pre-internet fashion, it also compliments the advancement of technology and consumer culture. It’s the intersection of nostalgia and digital culture and directly taps the heartbeat of the modern generation.
Each garment, be it a t-shirt, utilitarian jacket, or sleek tracks is a fashion timestamp. They have played with solid colours to highlight the brand logo which stood as a style icon during transformative decades. With print innovation and colour-blocking, Skechers has elevated urban utility and absorbed it with nostalgia in their new collection. Even though it redefines the past, it is also inspired by the brand’s commitment to innovation, self-expression, and its core philosophy.
At the Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, Bollywood star Kriti Sanon added a dash of elegance as the showstopper. The collection is now available at the Skechers stores and their website Skechers.in.
So far, it has directly tapped into the heart of the youth. It’s wacky, vibrant, retro, stylish, futuristic – all at the same time.
