Glitz, glamour and tasteful cinema, Festival de Cannes (Cannes Film Festival) is an annual week-long film festival held in France. Attended by some of the most prominent personalities in the world, from actors to filmmakers to royalty, the festival has put this gorgeous city on the map.

When these celebrities aren’t gracing the red carpet, they are waltzing around the city at the most luxurious restaurants, nightclubs and hotels. Here is a list of the favourite spots of A-listers when they aren’t at the Cannes Film festival.

1. Where They Stay

In 1946 the festival’s founder, François Andre, hand-picked the hotel as an event hotspot to host the opening and closing events. Ever since, the hotel’s responsibilities include hosting the stars, with a minimum of nearly 100,000 pounds of food and 18,500 bottles of wine and champagne. There are 8,000 fresh roses placed in the rooms of the guests, which cost approximately $32,000. There is also a 100% increase in staff members. The extravagance also includes 110 pounds of caviar, 2 tons of lobster, 550 pounds of chocolate and 20,000 macaroons for a total of 25,000 meals. Phew! That’s a lot.

Located just a stone’s throw away from where the festival takes place at the Palais des Festivals, this hotel also has some of the most exclusive designer shops. It has two private penthouses, including one with its own private pool!

Celebs To Spot: Literally everyone! Because it hosts the opening and closing ceremonies, all the celebs can be seen strutting in and out of the venue, including Beyonce, Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai.

Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc

A luxurious and ‘green’ retreat which has in the past hosted Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lopez and Clint Eastwood, you are sure to spot a celeb at this hotel. The space has a private garden and an infinity pool. Celebrities often opt for Hotel du Cap during the festival because of the privacy the villas provide, away from the main building.

Celebs To Spot: Clint Eastwood, Sharon Stone, Beyonce, Kendall Jenner and Kelly Rowland.

InterContinental Carlton Cannes

Doesn’t it look like a set from a Wes Anderson film? Built in 1911, InterContinental Carlton Cannes is bustling with celebrities during the Cannes Film Festival as it overlooks the Bay of Cannes. Famous for being the location for Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier’s first date during the 1955 film festival, the hotel has a suite dedicated to the legendary actress and the Prince of Monaco. 

Celebs To Spot: Matthew McConaughey and Jane Fonda have been spotted here before.

2. Where They Eat

La Palme D’or

This exclusive restaurant, La Palme d’Or situated in Hotel Martinez boasts two Michelin stars and is known to draw a string of celebrity diners. Their specialties include spider crab in three stages and suckling lamb shoulder. Celebrities often opt to stay at this luxury property by Hyatt so you’ll definitely catch a few in the hotel lobby.

Celebs To Spot: Robert Pattinson and Scarlett Johansson have stayed at Hotel Martinez during Cannes.

Caffe Lalu

Grab an espresso at Bar Lalu after a day of strolling around La Croisette, a stone’s throw away from the beach. With a gorgeous patio and a large selection of wine, this is the spot where celebrities choose to unwind after a long day at the red carpet. Located between Hotel Martinez and InterContinental, it is a great spot to people watch. It also has one of the city’s most amazing brunch served at 11 am.

Celebs To Spot: Paris Hilton and Eva Longoria have been spotted at the cafe.

The Grill Lounge & Bar

Located at the hotel Hotel du Cap Eden Roc, the Grill Lounge & Bar has renowned chefs and a delectable spread available. Located on the tip of a cliff, the view of the magnificent Mediterranean is what sets this restaurant apart.

Celebs To Spot: The iconic AMFAR fundraiser during the Cannes Film Festival is held here annually, so every celebrity at the festival stops by.

3. Where They Party

A favourite amongst festival attendees and France’s elite, La Baoli is a party girl’s dream destination for dinner and dancing. With an indoor and outdoor setting, it has even hosted a Cannes Film Festival after-party.

Celebs To Spot: The afterparty has been attended by the likes of Noami Watts, Sienna Miller and Camila Alves.

Gotha

You can’t mistake this one for a regular nightclub, it is a concert! The only club at Cannes which closes at 8 am, you can be sure that the party doesn’t stop here. With performances by pop stars and DJs, this is the go-to spot for every party animal in town.

La Chunga
