Curly hair is often labelled as a ‘high maintenance’ hairstyle, but the ones who call it so don’t really know how to take care of it. You don’t need to use expensive hot tools or invest in special curly hair products to define your curls. You just need to master the art of ‘hair plopping’. What’s that, you ask? It’s basically a curly hair technique that involves using a cotton cloth to air-dry your curls. Let’s learn more about this no heat curly hair technique!
Instead of allowing your curly hair to naturally air-dry, we’re going to take it up a notch by loosely wrapping the hair with a cotton tee. Why tee and not a towel? Allow me to briefly explain – regular towels are rough on the hair. If you aren’t careful, you can cause severe damage to the hair and that will result in hair fall. Since cotton is a softer fabric to work with, it won’t cause damage to your curls.
How To Do It
Step 1: Flip your damp hair forward and place it in the centre of your loose cotton tee.
Step 2: Use the sleeves of the tee to loosely wrap the hair up. (It should look like a turban)
Step 3: Plop your hair for 20-30 minutes.
And you’re done! One of the main benefits of using a tee-shirt to plop your hair is that it soaks up all the moisture without drying out your curls and causing frizz. Not to mention that cotton tee-shirts also absorb excess product residue so you don’t have to deal with hard, crunchy curls after.
Tip: To add more texture and volume to your curls, apply a defining gel to your damp hair and then practise hair plopping. Your curls are bound to stand out once you’re done.
