If your mom ever tells you to not do something, LISTEN to her! Trust me, I didn’t and I had to deal with a nasty rash for a whole week. It happened during my junior college days. The phase when I went all out to experiment and make my own beauty hacks. I wanted to get rid of my facial hair in the most painless way possible, but you know sometimes, experiments fail!
I knew that if I bleached, my thick sideburns would make me look like a golden leprechaun. If I shaved, I feared that I would accidentally cut myself. Plus, who wants stubble like a man? Even the thought of threading and waxing it gave me goosebumps! That’s why I came up with the wild idea of using a hair removal cream for facial hair …
I mean, I had tried hair removal cream for women on my arms and legs before and it always worked like a charm. Thinking that it would do the same for my face, I decided to give it a shot! I told my mom about it and she was totally against the whole idea. She explained to me that the skin on the face is much more sensitive as compared to your hands and legs. Even though it made a lot of sense, for the thrill of it, I still thought of giving facial hair removal a shot!
One fine weekend, when my parents were out of town, I got down to trying the hair removal cream on my facial hair. I put on my plastic gloves, squeezed some cream out of the tube and used a brush to apply it all over my face. Within just a couple of minutes, my face began to burn and smell funny.
I ran to the sink and used a damp cloth to wipe the cream off my face. You won’t believe what happened to my skin next! It turned red and was covered with tiny red boils. It started to itch, swell and burn soon after. Even though I managed to get rid of facial hair using a hair removal cream, it wasn’t worth the disastrous effects that followed soon after.
Believe me, I went to college every day wearing a scarf and leaving my hair loose. There was no way that I wanted those boils in place of my sideburns to be spotted and made fun of by anyone.
My mom was in shock when she got home. I remember her taking me to see the dermatologist the next day. I was prescribed a few creams, medicine and a week of rest.
Even if they pay me a million dollars to do this stunt again, I will never use a hair removal cream on my face, so what if it’s meant for use by women. My skin didn’t heal for 2 weeks! It hurt so much that I couldn’t even touch those areas of my face.
It’s been 5 years now that I’ve stayed away from using any hair removal cream on my facial hair. I’ve accepted my hair and skin for the way it is. Whenever I need to get rid of facial hair, I visit the salon and let them do the needful. No more experiments for me from now on!
