When it comes to beauty standards for women, nothing is ever enough for the world. Women are often chastised for being too skinny, too curvy, too loud, too shy, too dark, too fair and so on…But of late, empowered ladies are challenging these notions. Recently, social media star and actor Palak Tiwari open up about how she feels the burden of ‘unattainable standard of beauty‘ and how it impacted her.
In an interview, Palak talked about how the audience puts a lot of stress on stars to look or dress up in a certain way. The actress said, “People speak so much about how actors need to be presentable, but at the same time, there’s so much contradictory conversation that actors, especially budding actors and actresses are setting an almost unattainable standard of beauty. But I have been noticing, that it’s not a standard set by us, but set for us by the audience.”
The Bijlee Bijlee star added if an actress gets cosmetic surgeries done, people are quick to judge her but at the same time, if they don’t, they are called ‘unadorned’. “So you can never really truly please an audience with how you groom yourself, or not because they will always portray their insecurities onto you,” Palak concluded.
We completely agree with the Quickie actress on this! It is not unfair to claim that the entertainment industry makes it hard for women to embrace their natural beauty as there is constant pressure to mould themselves in a certain way. We are so glad that more actresses are speaking up about the stress of living up to certain beauty stereotypes. Acne, scars, stretch marks, and curves are all a part of our beauty and it’s time we embraced them!
Moreover, we as the audience also have to take the responsibility to stop celebrating cookie-cutter beauty and embrace our diverse aesthetics. After all, change begins from within!
We are so proud of Palak for speaking up about this relevant and relatable subject. You go, gurl!
