One morning, I woke up to a lot of noise outside my house. It was a Sunday, so naturally I got a bit irritated and shouted from the bed, “Ma, what’s all this noise?” She came to my room and announced, “Our new neighbours are shifting in next door.”
My mum makes friends easily and she soon became good friends with Tina aunty – our new neighbour.
Tina aunty invited us for the Grihapravesh and I met her son Aarush for the first time during dinner that day. He was the typical tall, dark and handsome kind of a guy and all the girls at the dinner party were talking about him. However, I found him a bit arrogant, so I kept my distance.
Coincidentally, he got admission in my college and one day Tina aunty suggested that we both go to the college together. At first, I made excuses. However, a day came when I had to go with him: we were leaving at the same time and Tina aunty insisted we go together.

For the first 15 minutes, there was absolute silence in the car. Neither Aarush nor I tried to initiate a conversation. It was the most awkward drive, ever, of my life. Little did I know that this arrogant guy would someday be my guy.
A week or so afterwards, it was raining heavily and while rushing to his car, I managed to cut my hand… I am rather clumsy that way. Five minutes into the drive and Aarush suddenly stopped the car. He got out, and ran towards a medical shop. He came back, handed me a Band-aid saying, “You better use this!”
I was surprised to see this caring side of his. The fact that he noticed the cut and ran in the rain to get a bandage for me was totally unexpected. I couldn’t stop thinking about him the whole day, so I sent him a friend request on Facebook that night. And he accepted it within an hour. We started talking regularly and soon became buddies. We would often talk about and wonder why we couldn’t stand each during the initial days of our acquaintance.

After a month or so, one evening he texted me saying that he was getting bored at home and if I would go for a walk with him in the park nearby. I couldn’t say no because I did like spending time with him. We walked for a while in silence and then he asked, “So… how do you feel now?”
I didn’t understand what he was trying to ask but still replied, “I feel good, but are you okay?”
“Yes. I mean no. I mean I really like you and I’ve been wanting to tell you this for some time now.”
I couldn’t take in what he said and laughed.
“I’m serious. I’m a happier person when I’m with you. You complete me,” he said and I knew he meant what he was saying when I saw his face.
“So, you want me to say the same?” I asked blushing.
“Would be glad if you did!”
I couldn’t come up with the right words so I just hugged him. The way he wrapped his arms around me and the way I fitted perfectly in his embrace… it was magical! That was the most amazing hug of my life.
It’s been a year we have been together since then. He gives me more reasons to love him every single day!
