Delusional & How! Someone Now Thinks Mallika Sherawat Is Responsible For Rapes In India

Why was she out so late at the night? She should have thought before wearing such short clothes! Taali ek haath see nahi bajti! Every time a rape is reported in India, we get to hear a bunch of such ludicrous comments. Some way or the other, we always find a way to blame our women for being sexually harassed raped, and even being brutally murdered at the hands of these animals.

Sadly, no matter how much we try to educate the country, there is always someone or the other who directly lays it on the victim before even considering to actually blame the perpetrator. Well, such is patriarchy! We have seen this happening in the Nirbhaya rape case, in a slew of cases that followed, and also, the recent Hathras case that has been politicised to the extent that it has become almost impossible to comment on it apolitically.

Guess the blame game is patriarchy’s modus operandi and it’s always women of our country who take the hit. Mallika Sherawat was recently at the receiving end of this blame game after she decided to comment on the Hathras case. “Unless India reforms its medieval mindset towards women nothing will change #HathrasHorror #NirbhayaCase,” she wrote on Twitter and honestly where’s the lie?

However, while patriarchy might love to put blame on women, it turns into a sissy, butthurt baby when the tables are turned. The very same happened with Mallika’s tweet when a man could not take the harsh truth embedded in Mallika’s words and decided to answer her with a caustic and also, highly misguided reply.

In his reply, the man legit went on blaming the actor for selecting roles that let men objectify her in the first place. I mean, couldn’t he sense the hypocrisy in his own words? Here’s his full reply:

In no mood to take that random, not to forget, sexist blow, Mallika did not back down and quickly called out the man for his hypocrisy. She wrote, “So the movies I act in are an invitation for rape!!! It’s mentality like yours that make Indian society regressive for women! If you have a problem with my movies then Don’t see them #nocountryforwomen” and we are so glad she did!

Seriously all these years of activism and education and people still find it so difficult to understand that the dirt isn’t in the body but in the gaze. The problem is not women’s bodies or clothes but how they are objectified. The problem is not the victim but the perpetrator.

Because had it actually been the clothes worn by women or the amount of freedom they are “given” then infants wouldn’t have been raped in India, fully clad women wouldn’t have been raped in India, and also, old women wouldn’t have been raped in India. Just FYI, a 90-year-old was recently raped and brutally thrashed in the capital!

Truth be told, we wouldn’t have to talk about “controlling” or changing our women if we could just educate our men to respect women instead of saying shit like “men will be men!” Hold your men accountable for their behaviour, teach them how to respect women, and tell them about behaving nicely as seriously as you feed women bullshit about their family’s izzat being embedded in their vagina! Till that’s done, it’s seriously #NoCountryForWomen!
