Indian mothers are amazing because they always go the extra mile for their children. You might be familiar with their flying chappals but you also know that your mom loves you unconditionally. While we adore our moms, we also need to remember that they play a vital role in shaping our personalities. Especially when it comes to boys.
Indian men learn everything from their mothers, and let’s be honest, there are some flaws in the way Indian women raise their sons. We’re not saying that Indian moms are wrong or bad, but they do baby their sons a tad bit too much. There’s nothing wrong with a man who loves his mother but if that man is a ‘mama’s boy’, we know who to blame.
There’s a difference between loving your son and going all out to pamper and spoil him. And that’s probably why these men depend far too much on their mothers and then look for someone else to depend on aka their wives!
Here are some things we wish Indian moms would stop doing for their ladla betas and raise them right.
1. Kya Khayega Mera Pyara Beta?
We know Indian mothers love feeding their kids and there’s nothing wrong with that. But at the same time, it’s important to teach your kid how to cook to make sure that they can be independent. Whatever the gender may be, your child should know how to feed themselves when you’re not around (and even if you are!). But Indian mothers just can’t see their sons doing the mehnat in the kitchen and expect their daughter-in-law to feed their son like they did. No, just stop! She didn’t marry your son to be his cook. Period.
2. Kamra Saaf Kar Dun?
Stop doing this, lady! We know you want the house to be clean, but when you regularly pick up after them, they fail to understand the importance of basic hygiene. Teach them to clean their rooms and wash and iron their clothes by themselves. Stop washing their dirty socks and chaddis–they’re not toddlers!
3. Chhaddo Ji, Baccha Hai
We know you want to save your son from papa ji ki daant and we get it, but letting his mistakes slide is not the right way to go. When you do that, you’re only encouraging his bad behaviour and letting him know that you will always rescue him. It is important to teach your son the right lesson if you want him to grow up to be a good human being. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT cover up his mistakes.
4. Tu Mujhse Paise Le Le Beta
Every time you give your son extra money or take care of his finances, you’re taking a step in the wrong direction. You think you’re helping your son by managing his finances, but what you’re really doing is making him dependent on you. Do not let him overspend and let him learn the hard way.
5. Mera Beta Aisa Nahi Kar Sakta
Okay, we know he’s your ladla beta but can you not? You can baby him all you want but only as long as he’s a baby. Let him grow up and stop siding with your son when he’s wrong. The more you ignore his mistakes, the worse it’ll get in the long run. You know what your son can and cannot do, so teach him to own up to his mistakes.
6. Haye, Mera Puttar
Stop putting his needs before your own and everyone else’s. Stop expecting everyone to ‘adjust’ according to your son. Stop letting him have his way and more importantly, stop putting up with his tantrums. Instead, teach your son to compromise and adjust according to the world. We know he is the apple of your eyes, but let him learn to be responsible, disciplined and independent.
It may seem harmless to an Indian mother, but it doesn’t take long for men to completely depend on their moms for everything. And soon, they go from asking for all that ‘care’ from their moms to their wives, and sorry, but women want a partner, not your man-child.
