Reverse contouring, the latest in the long line of viral makeup hacks that has taken Instagram by storm. Just when you think you’ve finally got the whole contouring thing down to a science, along comes the reels section and changes it all up. Say hello to the newest method of shapeshifting- reverse contouring. This is a must-try if you are a makeup fanatic and love to experiment like us. We break down this newest trend into quick, easy steps if you should feel inclined toward trying it out.
As the name suggests, it is literally the reverse of contouring, i.e. applying the highlighting concealer/ foundation to the areas you previously used contour or bronzer on. Let’s map it out on the face strategically.
How To Reverse Contour Like A Pro
Nose
Apply bronzer over your entire nose (sounds weird but trust the process). Then, take your concealer of choice and apply it to the bridge of your nose, and a little down the sides, and just blend. That’s it, you’re done with the nose.
Cheeks
First, you take your concealer and apply it along your cheekbone line. Second, take your bronzer and apply it above and below the concealer along the same plane. Step three is blend, blend, blend and you are done.
Jawline
Apply the concealer directly over your jawline and repeat the first and second steps from above.
It sounds confusing but once you try it out, you will be a convert. It adds much more depth and definition than regular contouring and it’s just a fun new way of doing up your face. Watch this tutorial if you’re still confused.
Here Are Some Products That We Recommend For This Hack
Bronzer
What’s better than one bronzer? Two of them! This Bronzer Duo comes in two stunning buildable hues. If you’re going for a sharp bold contour, like on your jawline and nose Cinnamon is your guy, and for the cheeks and forehead Terracotta does the job perfectly. They are lightweight, super buildable and blend seamlessly.
There’s a reason this contour wand is a cult favourite. The application process is super easy and the colour just flows and blends into your skin, giving you an almost instant facelift. I find that my cheekbones specifically look super natural with this wand. If you apply too much that’s not an issue because with a little more blending it’s like the problem never existed.
Concealer
I’ll be honest, I first bought this concealer because of how reasonably priced it is. Now, however, I am a loyal devotee and it’s my favourite one yet. Pimples, scars, eye bags, and discolouration is instantly covered with this concealer. Apart from the coverage though, I feel the best part is that no matter how much product you apply, it won’t look cakey one bit.
The queen of base makeup palettes, this one comes with a primer, concealer, foundation, compact with SPF 30 and two colour correctors. Yes, I might be partial to this palette because of how convenient it is but it is also equally brilliant. The products all leave my face feeling nourished, hydrated and like I have this natural glow. A little bit of this goes a long way and really gives my face that oomph factor.
Try out a fun new way to make your cheekbones pop, make your jawline so sharp it could cut through wood, and your nose super snatched!
