Reminder: hair or no hair, your partner should love you for who you are. But if glabrous limbs make you feel more confident, we’re here for you. Now, you could spend hours in the shower bending in every possible direction to shave your limbs. But this hard work doesn’t always manifest into silky-smooth, date-ready skin that you envision. Cross your freshly shaved legs or just run your hands over them and you’ll know what we’re talking about.
The cactus-like prickliness post shaving can be a real spoiler. But we’ve got you covered. These seven shaving tips listed by Dr. Kritika Bansal, Dermatologist, Sharda Hospital ,Greater Noida can make sure your limbs are buttery soft before a date:
Shower Before Shaving
Just like your date, shaving needs a bit of a prep too. Dr. Kritika suggests taking a warm shower or wrapping a hot towel around your legs before shaving. “This can enlarge the pores of the skin and make the hair soft and easy to remove,” she says.
Don’t Wait, Exfoliate
Exfoliation is yet another pre-shaving step that can help keep prickliness at bay. “The hair trapped under the dead skin can add to the bumpy appearance and roughness after shaving. Scrubbing the body gently can remove the dead skin and bring this hair on the surface for easy removal,” she explains.
Jet, Set, Wet
“Dry skin tends to get more cuts and abrasions. So, make sure to use a shaving barrier to avoid cuts and burns,” Dr. Krittika says. While shaving creams can help, they might cause irritation and allergy on sensitive skin. That’s why we suggest you use Sirona’s Hydrating Body Wash to lubricate your skin. It’s packed with natural ingredients like red aloe vera and Tasmanian pepper fruit and is extremely gentle.
Use A Sharp, New Razor
It’s important to use the right razor to get the right results. “You must always use a razor with sharp blades to remove the hair with minimum strokes. Lesser razor strokes means less friction with the skin. This in turn can minimise cuts, bumps, redness, irritation and ingrowns,” explains Dr. Krittika. Additionally, she suggests using a new razor every time you shave your body. “Use a disposable razor. It can reduce the risk of infection of the hair follicles, which too can contribute to prickliness post shaving,” she adds.
Before we go on, we have to tell you about Sirona’s Aloe Boost Twin Blade Razors. These disposable babies have Swedish stainless steel blades that can give you a super-close shave. They also come with an aloe vera strip to moisturise the skin and reduce friction. They are a must-buy before the D-day, we say.
Do It Right
Surely shaving is the simplest hair removal method ever. But you’ve got to get the technique right. “Stretch the area to be shaved by holding your skin taut. Shave slowly in the direction of the growth of hair,” she says. “Once done, rinse the area with lukewarm water and pat it dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing as it can increase chances of ingrown hair and lead to painful bumps,” she adds.
Calm Your Skin
This one’s the best shaving tip yet. Apply Sirona’s Post Wax & Shave Gel immediately after shaving. Enriched with aloe vera, chamomile, and green tea, it can instantly soothe your skin. It can also relieve dryness, irritation, and redness in a jiffy.
Don’t Forget To Moisturise
Shaving can render your skin dry. This can make it flaky, rough and lead to irritation and prickliness. “Always moisturise your body after shaving. This can nourish the skin and help restore its moisture balance. This step can also prevent prickliness and leave your skin feeling soft and supple,” says Dr. Krittika.
Pro tip: Use Sirona’s Hydrating Body Lotion for non-greasy, intense hydration. Packed with cocoa butter and aloe vera, it can nourish the skin like no other.
With these tips, even you won’t be able to keep your hands off your buttery-soft legs. We bet your partner won’t either. *Wink*
