During the reign of the Tughlaq Dynasty, it appeared to be one of the most occupied places for controversial discussions and plotting of secretive invasions in the country. Since then, this place has been known to be the home of Djins (invisible spirits that possess humans). And locals try to please these djins by making offerings with milk and grains every Thursday. The name, Khooni Darwaza, which literally means ‘Bloody Door’ is true to its spine-chilling death history. It was at this exact same spot where Bahadur Shah Zafar’s sons – Mirza Mughal and Mirza Khizr Sultan and his grandson Mirza Abu Bakht were killed by a British soldier, Captain William Hudson. He shot them dead after stripping them naked in front of everybody to create an illusion of fear in the minds of anyone who dared go against them. So, those who stay in the neighbouring areas continue to feel the troubled spirits move around them and their anguished cries and painful screams at night.

Its a place where all nature lovers head in the mornings for a walk or sight-seeing during cosy, winter afternoons. But amidst this lush green wilderness lies something inhuman that can only be felt during the night. It’s believed that several years ago, a woman hung herself from a Peepal tree before killing her own children out of poverty and frustration – but her soul never attained rest. Since then, she roams around the forest in search of a human to possess and the desire for a better life. Hence, there have been visitors claiming to hear children laughing in the middle of the night, not just inside the forest but even on the roadside – as she uses them as bait to lure people inside the forest.

Ever heard of ‘what goes around, comes around’? Well, this little eerie roadside incident tends to be a gentle reminder of the same. According to the legend, many years ago, a woman was known to be brutally raped, tortured and murdered by some guys in a car whom she had asked for directions or maybe, a lift. This may sound like a cliched horror story but if you heard the residents near this place talk about it, you wouldn’t feel the same anymore. According to the reports, back in 1986, two dead bodies of an aged couple, Yadu Krishnan Kaul and Madhu Kaul were found in the water tanks of their own house. They were believed to be brutally murdered by their own Yoga teacher over possession of their wealth and property. Since then, the house is said to be unquestionably haunted as those who dare to step inside for a look, find themselves feeling dizzy and followed by unhappy spirits. Many neighbours also shifted to new premises on hearing wailing sounds and voices of moving furniture from the vacant house every day.

The employers had begun reporting the appearance of spirits and shadowy figures in the office so much so that they decided to install CCTV cameras – and guess what? It was true! Their videos surely proved the occurrence of paranormal activities taking place in the court after office hours. In some of them, white figures were seen emerging from the walls, flickering computer screens being turned on and off and drawers were opened and closed on their own.
