Facebook Introduces An Unsend Button – For All The Messages You Wish You Could Take Back!

We’ve all, at some point of time, checked our ‘Other’ folder on Facebook messenger and laughed at the messages that begin with ‘Hi Angle, please frandship me’. No kidding, that is a legit message I’ve received from he-who-must-not-be-named! Turns out, there might be some redemption for them finally! Facebook now plans to introduce an ‘unsend‘ button that’ll help you delete any traces of your stupidity or the drunk night out!

A few days ago, TechCrunch reported that Facebook executives have been long able to delete the messages they’ve sent. This feature has not been made available to the general public yet. The company, in crisis management, quickly apologised to the public and promised to make this feature available to everyone who has a Facebook account eventually.

The Guardian reported “Facebook has been using a secret tool to delete messages sent by its executives from the inboxes of their recipients, without disclosing the deletions to the recipients or even recording there was ever a message in the first place. Effectively, this means if you send Mark Zuckerberg a Facebook message, he has a copy forever. But if he sends you one, he can reach into your inbox and pluck it out of existence.”

To prevent another scandal, the company offered the perfect solution, one we’d all love! A Facebook spokesperson was quoted saying that “We will now be making a broader delete message feature available. This may take some time. And until this feature is ready, we will no longer be deleting any executives’ messages. We should have done this sooner – and we’re sorry that we did not.”

Considering the controversies surrounding Facebook, with the company still trying to make amends for the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, another scandal only serves to reduce the public trust (and share prices!). Maybe, this feature will help forgive the company and forget its many transgressions. Also, less humiliation for all of us who’ve drunk texted our exes!
