Deepika Padukone, who made her Hollywood debut with XXX: Return Of Xander Cage, has always been vocal about her interest in doing projects in the west. Earlier in an interview, the actress had revealed, “Working in Hollywood is an extension of my creativity and the ability to work in a different environment with different people.”
Well, it’s been four years since her international debut. If you’ve been waiting for her next Hollywood movie, we’ve got a major announcement for you!
Our fave Bollywood star is all set to be a part of a big international project and we can’t keep calm! Deepika has signed a cross-cultural romantic comedy that is going to be developed by Eros STX Global Corporations divisions STXflims.
That’s not all, DP will not only star in the movie but also co-produce it under her banner Ka Productions. A little birdie also tells us that STXfilms is in talks with Temple Hill Productions’ Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, known for the Twilight franchise and The Fault in Our Stars, to develop the project. Oh boy, this is getting way too exciting for us!
In a statement, the Piku actress said, “Ka Productions was founded to develop and produce purposeful content with global appeal. I’m thrilled to be partnering with STXfilms and Temple Hill Productions, who share Ka’s ambition and creative vision and look forward to bringing impactful and dynamic cross-cultural stories to the world.”
Adam Fogelson, Chairman, STXfilms Motion Picture Group, also expressed his excitement about collaborating with Deepika. “There is a reason Deepika is one of the biggest global stars to come from India. She is enormously talented with an infectious personality and her profile continues to grow as an international superstar.” He also added that while the star has been a phenomenal success in many Eros International films, they are thrilled to be building a romantic comedy with her and their friends at Temple Hill.
Lastly, he said, “We believe this project allows us to tap into the spirit, voice, characters, and vibrant settings of India and New York in ways that made Crazy Rich Asians feel so authentic and fresh.”
This isn’t the first time Deepika would be donning the hat of a producer. She produced the movie Chhapaak last year and also announced the Indian adaptation of The Intern under her banner.
It looks like the actress is super caught up with multiple projects RN, and has amazing movies in the pipeline. Here’s wishing her all the very best for her second big Hollywood project. We’re sure she’s gonna take the west by storm, once again!
