This year, I’ve failed miserably to keep up with my New Year Resolutions (but most successfully kept up with all the Kardashians) as I’ve indulged myself with multiple web series across different platforms. I. Just. Can’t. Stop! With Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar and YouTube at my disposal, I can say that I have become a serial watcher and here are a few web series that I absolutely loved this year.
Netflix Web Series I Cannot Get Enough Of
Whenever I have any free time on my hands or when I’m Shuttl-ing to work, I’m either watching a new series on Netflix or rewatching an old one. These are the ones I’ll definitely watch again and again…
Insatiable
Patty is a bullied, overweight teenager with anger management issues who gets fit and it changes her life. Bob is a civil lawyer-turned-beauty pageant coach whose career is under fire after getting wrongly accused of molesting an underage client. What happens when this vengeful teenager and the pageant coach decide to work together? A lot of drama, suspense, and a few casual murders; definitely not your average teen rom-com!

Dynasty
A billionaire dad with billionaire kids – one wants to create a ‘Dynasty’ like her father and another one cannot see eye to eye with him and his mad ideologies. Fallon Carrington is extremely unhappy when her father decides to make his new wife, Cristal, the CEO of his company and Fallon will do anything to sabotage her at every step, including releasing her sex-tape online.
The Carringtons are up to no good. What is happening behind the majestic doors of their mansion? Why is Fallon competing with her father? Who is this Cristal number 2? This show will keep you awake at night…

Derry Girls
This is one of the best shows I’ve watched this year! Derry Girls follows the lives of Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle, and James, a bunch of clueless teenagers who are growing up in Northern Ireland during the last years of the Troubles. Their crazy incidents (imagine accidentally killing a 98-year-old nun, not able to attend a concert as there’s a polar bear on the loose, accidentally setting fire to someone’s house with flaming shots and flooding a house where a wake is being held) make this a fun show to watch. You’ll fall in love with every character’s innocence and how they’re just trying their best to stay out of trouble. Oh, and that Irish accent is as awesome as the show.

Sex Education
Despite his mother being a well-known sex therapist, Otis in unsure about sex and his mother is far too frank about it. After inadvertently helping his school mate with sexual performance anxiety, he quickly becomes a school sensation and sets up a sex advice business with Maeve, who he has feelings for. It’s one of the most talked-about web series of 2019 and it’s a must-watch!

Santa Clarita Diet

This dark-comedy is unlike anything I’ve ever seen and it’s hilarious how Sheila’s husband is ‘arranging’ kills for his wife! The show has been cancelled, but the three seasons still make me go LOL!

I usually turn to YouTube to watch makeup tutorials and really old TV series I grew up with (remember 90210 and The Simple Life?). Believe it or not, YouTube does have a stock of your favourite TV shows, all it needs is some researching… But it also has some new ones that will stay with you forever.
Minus One
Powered by POPxo, Minus One is a sweet web series about a couple, no wait, an ex-couple. It’s one thing to stay friends with your ex and another thing to STAY, in the same house, with your ex! Riya and Varun are former flames who are living together as flatmates. Lots of fights, drama and super sweet moments – this show is a fresh take on the modern-day relationship.

The Beautiful World Of Jeffree Star
If you’re a beauty enthusiast, you’ll probably either LOVE Jeffree Star or won’t be able to stand him at all. The self-made beauty mogul is known for his brutally honest makeup reviews and of course, his eponymous brand, Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Shane Dawson, another controversial YouTuber, did a dedicated series on Jeffree that gathered millions of views across the globe, giving our inquisitive souls a much-needed sneak peek into his world of makeup.
His second series premiered this October and showed us the entire process of how products are being produced, from the idea to its execution to marketing. The much-hyped about series is a must-watch if you wish to watch something hatke today.

TV Series On Amazon Prime That Cannot Be Missed
Amazon Prime has had a great year! They have produced so many memorable web series in 2019 and I just can’t wait for what they have in store for 2020. Here’s my fave list in case you want to catch up.
Elementary
This new-age Sherlock is a perfect treat for those who love a dose of mystery. The story revolves around the dynamic detective duo who solve the most grueling cases. Acting as consultants to the NYPD, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson will keep you glued to your screens as they solve the most unbelievable cases of murder, kidnappings and terrorist activities. It’s also interesting to follow the story of Sherlock’s dead lover who is, in fact, a mastermind in the criminal world and had been alive this whole time.

Just Add Magic
If you need to clear up your mind, Just Add Magic to your life. Kelly Quinn, Darbie, and Hannah are childhood BFFs with a common passion for cooking. While looking for a recipe book, they stumble upon a vintage cookbook with the most outlandish ingredients. Kids being kids, they go to their favourite coffee shop and ask the owner to provide them with those ingredients and she actually has them (there’s a reason why she is the ONLY person in town to have so). On cooking these recipes, they realise that it’s actually a magical cookbook and those ingredients? Yes, those are magical too. Surprise, surprise. Although this is a show for kids, I really do enjoy watching it for the days I need a little bit of magic in my life.

If Splitsvilla and Roadies had a love-child, this atrocious show would be the result! Skulls and Roses is not your average reality series and you definitely cannot watch this with your parents! It’s the ultimate test of love and trust with rigorous tasks and so many cringe-worthy moments that it has become a guilty pleasure of mine! And guess who are the brains behind this? Raghu Ram and Rajiv!

The Family Man
This gripping Indian drama series is just what you need if you’re looking for a show that has a great storyline, incredible screen performances and a terrific plot involving terrorists and mind games. While his job is to protect our nation from the terrorists, he also has to protect his family who has no idea that his KRAs include a lot of *on filed* work with mediocre pay!

Chernobyl
