Know Your Products: What’s The Difference Between Dry Shampoo & Dry Conditioner

By now you’ve probably heard of dry shampoo, whether you use it or not. This product is a lifesaver for those days when we are pressed for time and can’t spare even a minute to wash our hair. But did you know that along with this magical product there is something else than leaves your hair looking fabulous even after a couple of days of not washing? Yes, for those days when you don’t need an oil-absorbing product, dry conditioners come to the rescue.

If you are confused between these two, don’t be! Dry shampoos and dry conditioners go together like Superman and Lois Lane. We’ve noted the key difference between the two and the right time to use these products. Keep scrolling to know more.

What Is Dry Conditioner?

We’ve all had those days when the scalp is not only oily, but the strands look dull and lifeless. This is when you need a dry conditioner. Dry conditioners are made with a weightless aerosol hydrating formula that contains small conditioning molecules. Instead of the scalp, this product needs to be applied at the midsection of the hair and for the tips. This revives each strand giving your tresses that just-washed-bounce. In other words, this product is more moisturising than dry shampoo as it adds shine and renews the strands, creating the illusion of a salon-like blow-dry.

The instructions are easy peasy when it comes to applying dry conditioner. All you need to do is concentrate on the mid-section of your hair. Begin spraying from this area and gradually proceed down to your tips. Once you’re done, you can go ahead and brush out your hair to achieve an even application.

If you are using both a dry conditioner and shampoo, make sure to add the shampoo first and later the conditioner.

If you’ve got the perfect blowout and don’t want to wash it away on day 2 or 3, then a dry conditioner will help. This will revive the hair and bring back the bounce, making it look like a freshly done blowout — Don’t worry, nobody is going to know.

What Is Dry Shampoo?

For those days when your hair and scalp feel too oily and greasy, here’s where dry shampoos come to the rescue. This product needs to be applied to the hair when its dry for it to work its magic. Since we can’t wash, blow-dry, and style our hair every day, this is when dry shampoo comes in handy.

What Does It Do?

So, what’s the science behind it? Well just like your skin, your scalp also contains sebum glands- a naturally produced oil which softens the scalp and hair. But when sweat, dirt and sebum collect on your head, it leads to that greasy feeling you dread oh-so-much. These shampoos are rich in alcohols and starch-based active ingredients which soak up the excess oil and sweat from your scalp and make the hair appear fresh and clean. And if you’re worried about the smell, don’t be! Most dry shampoos are enriched with fragrance, leaving you with that just-out-the-shower smell.

Unlike dry conditioners, dry shampoos go only on your scalp. All you need to do is add it to the different sections of your head and comb your hair for even distribution. Remember, a little goes a long way with this product.

When Do You Need?

Mostly on the 2nd and 3rd day, the scalp starts to feel oily and greasy, this is when you need to use a dry shampoo. But keep in mind that this is not a permanent solution to avoid washing your hair completely. Too much of this product can leave your scalp feeling dry and itchy, so make sure you wash your hair at least after a week if you are pressed for time.

Bottom line: These two products work well together and help you flaunt your blow-dry for days.
