Time To Let Off Some Steam: This New Hair Treatment Is Just What You Need

During these past few months, it was not only skin that got a lot of attention but hair as well. From new trendy haircuts to must-have hair colours of the season and even tips and tricks on how to keep your hair healthy — the list is endless. Now there’s a new hair treatment that’s stealing the spotlight and it has definitely got our attention. We’re referring to hair steaming. Hair steaming is the new IT thing that’s taking social media by storm and there’s a good reason why. While girls with curly and coily hair are all too familiar with deep conditioning treatments and its benefits, hair steaming is more of an updated version of it.

So, what is hair steaming and can it be done at home. Keep on reading to find out the answers.

What Is Hair Steaming?

Hair steaming or steamy therapy can do amazing things for your hair follicles and scalp. It not only provides moisture to your scalp but also promotes hair growth. The moist heat opens up the hair cuticles which allows your hair mask and oil to penetrate deeper, leaving your hair fibre better hydrated and moisturised.
When it comes to your scalp, steaming helps soften the skin cells, improves circulation while also eliminating any buildup of dirt and other pollutants that may have settled on the scalp.

But that’s not all. Aside from the benefits listed above, hair steaming can also do a few more things like add shine and softness to the hair, make your hair products more effective, prevent hair thinning and deliver maximum moisture to the hair strands. This form of hair therapy is beneficial for any hair type, especially those with dry or damaged hair.

How To Steam Your Hair At Home

Hair steaming is not as complicated as it sounds. All you’ll need is a soft warm towel and a shower cap.

Just soak the towel in warm water and wring out the excess water or keep it in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Once it’s warm enough, wrap the towel over your head and cover the entire thing with a shower cap or plastic bag. This will help trap in the moist steam and give you better results.
Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and later rinse it off with cold water.

If you want to steam your hair with oil, just massage the saturated oil into your scalp for about 5 minutes before you proceed with the towel steaming session. This will help the oil penetrate deeper into the hair follicles and give it the nutrients it needs and stop breakage.

Hair steaming provides your hair and scalp with the necessary moisture, so it’s best to do this treatment at least once in 10 days.
