Here’s Proof That Boob Tubes Are Back In Fashion As The ‘IT’ Choli Style!

Remember the early 2000s when a young Britney Spears scandalised everyone in a hot pink latex tube top? Let us refresh your memory a bit…

The style used to be pretty big and since then has been on and off on the fashion scene in the form of bandeaus or off shoulder crop tops. More recently, the tube top has become a summer street style go-to for some of our favourite fashion girls, hint: Bella Hadid used it to style her denims:

A tube top revival we never expected to see in India was initiated at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort ‘18 that is tube top-inspired cholis. Hoping to cater to the millennial woman, designers gave the tube top a contemporary twist to please the summer bride. With a young charm and inherently sexy aesthetic as merits, the tube top choli bowled us over, and how!

In case you were looking to work smart jackets as part of your ethnic ensembles, this is how you do it. Punit Balana kept it trendy with his hand detailed showstopper outfit – a layered skirt paired with a checkered tube choli under an embellished jacket.

Julie Shah’s collection was dominated by feminine florals and modern A-line silhouettes, the showstopper was a bustier tube choli worn by Kiara Advani. Styled with a cape shrug, it’s one of the reasons this designer is now on our ‘chic choli’ watchlist!

Bridal wear auteur Jayanti Reddy’s monochromatic collection of whites and greys has us entranced. Why? The designer merged splendid lehengas with glittering tube cholis, adding modern drama to relatively traditional designs. Here, again, the designer decided to style cholis with embroidered net jackets and tasselled capes to keep things modest.

Designer-approved pro tip: Pair your skimpy bandeau cholis with peplum jackets to create a fit and flare silhouette, which is modest and flirtatious at the same time!

Another version of the tube top, that we loved on the runway, is an off-shoulder style paired with textured, flared lehengas. Design house Amoh JADE by Monica & Karishma dressed showstopper Kalki Koechlin in a soft-toned golden off-shoulder choli that perfectly complemented her youthful spirit.

Designer duo Sonam & Paras Modi chose to give a modern twist to their collection with georgette and net lehengas, and silk blouses. We loved the ‘sans cover-up’ look of the ensemble… this one is for the bride seeking a whirlwind adventure in her bridal attire!

Whether you decide to style your bandeau cholis with a cover-up or go sans one, this viral style at the LFW is a must try this summer. Looking and feeling effortlessly cool in a lehenga choli has never been easier!
