Sonam Kapoor Taught Me What Hairstyling Tutorials Never Did

Sonam Kapoor’s Instagram is a masterclass in buns. Any time I lack inspiration, I take cues from her. Kapoor’s bias toward the hairstyle becomes more apparent every day. But never repetitive. Because each style varies in aesthetic, mood and feel.

Here are six easy iterations, along with a how-to on recreating them.

Classic & Slick: For A Formal/Semi-Formal Occasion

The slick centre-part is a common celeb-favourite. Sonam even wore her hair like this for her wedding. Begin by parting your hair down the middle and pull it into a low or mid-height ponytail with a hair-tie. Twist the length of the ponytail until you have reached the tips of your hair. The next step involves wrapping the twisted length around the base of the ponytail. Secure it with another hair-tie, and you’re done.

Spritz some of the Arata Sea Salt Thickening Hair Spray to hold the style while adding volume to it.

Extra & Effortless: For A Romantic Date

Centre part your hair and create a ponytail. Start braiding it as you normally would. Loop the braid around the base of the ponytail until you reach the end, and secure with bobby pins. Conclude by teasing the bun to loosen it up a little.

Use the Godrej Professional Hold It Hair Spray (Superior Hold) to hold the style.

Quick & Chic: For A Flight, A Run To The Grocery Store, And Everything In Between

This lazy-girl bun doesn’t lack glamour. Create a side part with some flicks/bangs framing your face. Sweep your hair back into a ponytail and place a finger on the base to twist the length of your hair around it. Secure it with a clip, loosen the bun a little, and that’s it.

Use the St Botanica Go Anti Frizz Hair Serum to settle the flicks at the front and tame frizz and flyaways.

Rosy & Romantic: For A Traditional Function

This ‘do epitomises elegance. After creating a side-part, braid your hair. Then, twist the length, and rotate it around the base. Just like the classic, conventional bun but with braids.

You can spruce up the style with a poppy, floral scrunchie like this one.

Glamm & Glittery: For A Wedding

Sonam is a pro at accessorising the bun with cloth, gems, and, in this case, jewellery. After you have styled your hair into the classic, slick bun, just embellish it with any hair-bun jewellery that goes with your aesthetic.

You can use this Hair Pin with Multi -Layered Chain for a similar end-result.

Neat & Clean: For Heading Out Or Staying At Home

Or, you know, if you want to keep it a little subtle, just clip this in. Not only does it tuck in the stray flicks of the bun, it looks glamorous. The hairstyle remains the same.

You can use the Amama Chaand Hair Pin for the same.

I know I’m recreating one of these this week, and I’m pretty sure it will be the classic one.
