Shopping for Wedding Season? Here’s Some Inspiration from Lakme Fashion Week!

Praachi Raniwala  |  May 6, 2016

The Winter Festive edition of Lakme Fashion Week may have come to a close but we are still not over all the fabulous fashion that set the ramp on fire. Plus with the festive and wedding season upon us, what better time than the present to make a lust list of all our favourite Indian looks seen on the ramp—just what we need to get inspired to dress up for all the celebrations that lie ahead!

1. Ridhi Mehra: Subtle Sophistication

We love the contemporary vibe of this raw silk sharara pant paired with a short asymmetrical hem embroidered tunic—just the subtle reprieve you need when you’ve had an overdose of colour. Wear it to a mehendi function or a Diwali dinner with chand balis and a pop-coloured watch.

2. Verb by Pallavi Singhee: Sporty Chic

For a sporty spin to Indian wear, look no further than this black Bandhani print tunic worn with a bomber jacket. Add a coloured churidaar or palazzos to complete the look for your next outdoor desi soiree. It may be an unconventional look, but it’s definitely a winner!

3. Sonaakshi Raaj: Hybrid Glory

We’ve been fans of this pretty designer’s sari-gowns for a while now and this blush blue dhoti sari wins her extra brownie points. You can always rely on Sonaakshi Raaj to make the sari relevant for the woman of today. The corset blouse gives it a modern edge as well.

4. Shantanu and Nikhil: White Wonder

Pre-stitched dupattas seems to be the traditional wear trend du jour this season and you wont hear us complaining about it. We love the simplicity of this ivory number—absolutely angelic and ethereal. It also gives one a wide canvas to play with enamel jewellery.

5. Payal Singhal: Sheer Play

It was a tough call between this one and Payal Singhal’s Chintz print, but we decided to go with the former for its sheer uniqueness. A fuss-free print + sheer overlays=win! It really proves that you don’t need to go overboard to make a statement. Easy (chic) does it.

6. Anita Dongre: Bottoms Up

We are totally on-board with the trend of wearing simple kurtas with ornate bottoms. And veteran designer Anita Dongre aces this style with her off-white outfit. Moreover, the versatility of the separates makes this look as practical as it is stylish.

7. Sanjay Garg: Purple Perfection

Sanjay Garg’s collection was an easy Indian Handlooms & Textiles Day favourite. This particular outfit spells regal splendour and we’ll be bringing it out for the next engagement ceremony we need to attend. And you?

8. Krishna Mehta: Layered Drama

Krishna Mehta made it really really difficult for us to pick a favourite—that’s how beautiful her entire collection was. This particular look (like all others from the showing) demonstrates the effectiveness of upbeat colours and simple draping and layering. You don’t always need OTT embroidery to make an impact.

9. Anju Modi: Lehenga Lovin’

If you’re scouring for a lehenga to wear to your BFF’s sangeet, then let all searches end with this beauty by Anju Modi. We are particularly partial to it because of the tunic style blouse and pops of red that really elevate the mustard base of the outfit. Top it off with jadau jewellery.

10. Divya Sheth: Beauty in Chaos

There may be a lot going on in this embroidered kurta teamed with dhoti pants but it comes together very beautifully indeed. It’s a fuss-free yet eyeball-grabbing choice for a Diwali dinner or puja. All it needs is statement earrings.

11. Frou Frou by Archana Rao: The Sari Reinvented

It’s the vintage vibe of this peach sari that really did us in. That and our fixation with nautical striped blouses. We can’t think of anything better to wear to a day beach wedding. Can you?
