Shame On You! An Open Letter To Everyone Trolling Harnaaz Sandhu For Her Weight Gain

Last night was an emotional one for the 2021 Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu. She walked the ramp for the last time as the crown holder and felicitated Miss Universe 2022. Harnaaz graced the ramp in a stunning black Saisha Shinde gown while her powerful voice note played in the background. The best part? Her dress had pictures of Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta’s winning moments printed on it to pay tribute to the ex-crown holders.

Harnaaz had a tiny goof-up during the walk when she lost her balance and was about to trip. She, however, did not let it show on her face and gracefully regained her balance. But as we all know, the hateful social media trolls just need one oops moment to go after celebs’ life. Exactly that happened with Harnaaz. Trolls took no time to make fun of her and they didn’t even shy away from cracking body-shaming jokes.

Well, it’s crucial that we help these haters with a much-needed reminder. Here’s an open letter for everyone fat-shaming Harnaaz:

Hey Haters,

I remember the first time you trolled Harnaaz for gaining a few extra pounds. I remember when you brutally asked her to ‘eat salads instead of Jalebi’. I remember when you assumed that she was pregnant just ‘coz she put on weight. My question is—when will this stop?

So what if Harnaaz’s body might have changed in the past year and she might not be the same size anymore? Didn’t you all see how she confidently walked the ramp and looked so comfortable in her skin? Are you trying to imply that a woman’s worth is inversely proportional to her weight?

Well, you know what? Her size is not the problem. Your limited idea of beauty is! It’s high time y’all stop being so obsessed with other people’s weight and mind your own business. I mean we are literally talking about a woman who has made the entire nation proud by bringing back the prestigious crown after two long decades. Why can’t we cheer for her instead of trolling her like this? Words have great power and it is high time we start using them wisely. Also, here’s a nifty tip. The next time you’re about to make judgemental comments about someone, think about how you would feel reading the same about yourself. That will help you with some perspective!

Sincerely,

Someone who is tired of people’s mean remarks on her weight and size!
