A Sabyasachi Style Lehenga For Half The Price? This Bride Got It & We Love It!

Shaadi ka lehenga and Sabyasachi ka design are almost synonymous to each other! Most brides want to wear a Sabya on their wedding day, but reconsider their decision after looking at the exorbitant price tags. But hey, just because a designer lehenga is out of your budget doesn’t mean you can’t wear a gorgeous lehenga. Meet Vani Ganesh – the bride who wore a gorgeous Sabyasachi-esque lehenga that was almost half the price of an actual Sabya design! We have all the deets from the bridey herself. Read on as she revisits her journey of picking her dream bridal lehenga…

“As soon as my wedding date was finalised, I was in a fix for my lehenga. I didn’t know where to begin. I was super confused and started by zeroing down on the colours that I was open to and the type of work I wanted. I was pretty sure that I did not want anything too OTT. And if there’s something I had always dreamt about, it was to wear a Sabyasachi lehenga on my big day. But since that was not in my budget, I decided to go for something that had similar work and design. I also knew that I wanted to look for lehengas in shades of pink, peaches and orange and avoid red and maroon as much as possible. And thus began my search.

Everyone told me that I must place the order at least 3 months before the wedding. And here I was, with hardly any time left! I’m not exaggerating but I was really stressed! I had visited a number of stores and found nothing that I actually loved. After spending hours and days looking for that perfect lehenga, I finally zeroed in on a piece at Om Prakash Jawahar Lal in Chandni Chowk.

Going to Om Prakash Jawahar Lal was the best decision of my life, as in my first visit itself, I found ‘the one’. It was a beautiful ruby red lehenga with zari work. The moment I tried it on, it just felt right. It made my face glow!

As red was not my preferred colour, I was still a bit confused whether or not I should get the same design in a different colour. But it looked so good and so Sabya that I decided to go ahead with it. We added a blush pink dupatta and made a few changes to the border and tadaaa… my dream lehenga was ready! It came out even better than I had imagined!

Once my outfit was finalised, I started with my jewellery. I opted for rubies and created my mathapatti from scratch. After a visit to multiple kaarigars in Chandni Chowk and other roadside vendors, I finally put together a mathapatti that went gorgeously with the lehenga.

I did a lot of research on POPxo Wedding, for all the wedding related inspiration and in fact, it was the Chandni Chowk story that helped me find out about all the different stores in the market!!”

We’re glad we could help the gorgeous Vani in her search for the perfect wedding outfit! So, if you are looking for some such inspo too, you now know where to look!
