Take Cue From Madhuri Dixit To Look Like A Dream In Makeup At Any Age!

Makeup is relatively easier when you’re young, you can pull off even straight up glitter on your face. But as you age, your skin tends to go through some unfortunate but dramatic changes. The loss of collagen and elasticity in your skin makes it thinner and susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles if you don’t follow a good skincare regime. Applying makeup in your forties can be a relatively trickier game. And who better to take cue from than Madhuri Dixit! I’ve been a fan of the dancing diva’s natural beauty ever since she set foot into Bollywood. So if you’re in your late thirties and mid-forties, here are some tips that will help you look your best, no matter what your age!

1. Prep n’ Prime

As you age, your skin loses its elasticity and your body produces lesser oestrogen; both of these lead to dry skin. Make sure you prep your skin well before applying any kind of makeup. While picking out makeup, ensure that all your products have some kind of ‘hydrating’ qualities in them. Matte and thick makeup and will accentuate lines and wrinkles and settle into them making you look older than you are.

POPxo Recommends: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (Rs 1,600) and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (Rs 3,300)

2. Use An Illuminating Foundation

It’s essential for you to use the right foundation when you’re older. A lighter, hydrating formula with light reflecting properties will make your skin look luminous and youthful. Look for a foundation with medium coverage as this works best for middle-aged women.

POPxo Recommends: Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation SPF 20 (Rs 3,650)

3. Eyes

Keep your eye makeup to a bare minimum. A little bit of mascara with a hint of shadow works best for women at that age. The skin around your eyes starts to droop a little when you’re older. This creasing will lead to oilier lids and will end up smudging your makeup. Use a lengthening mascara, this will make sure you look fresh and well rested.

POPxo Recommends: Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara (Rs 2,900)

4. Cheeks and lips

Mature skin tends to look dull and tired, using brighter colours on your face as you age can help bring life back to your face. Don’t shy away from brighter blushes and lip colours. You could do a bright blush and just a hint of gloss on your lips or you could put on a bright lipstick and use a neutral blush. Stay away from harsh contouring and highlighters as they could make you look older.

POPxo Recommends: The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet (Rs 895) and Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer (Rs 1,650)
